Insider Gaming’s Game of the Year 2025

It’s great to see games recognized for specific types of play, and even better when one game truly stands out across an entire genre. But the Game of the Year award is the most important. After considering many excellent games, TopMob has chosen the one they believe is the very best of 2025.

After a year of exciting video game releases, the moment has arrived to celebrate the best titles. Developers have poured their hearts into creating these games, and publishers are hoping for recognition. 2025 has been a fantastic year for gaming, offering incredible experiences in genres like Roguelikes, RPGs, and Action-Adventure, and keeping players entertained for countless hours.

TopMob has crowned a winner.

Best Game Of 2025 Winner—Hollow Knight: Silksong

Many great games came out, but a few really stood out. If you can handle the challenging difficulty of Hollow Knight: Silksong and set aside debates about what makes a Game of the Year, then Silksong is a strong contender – and our team at TopMob agrees!

After years of silence, excitement for Silksong exploded this year, culminating in a release date announcement following its Gamescom 2025 reveal in August. The game generated an unusual amount of hype for an indie title. When downloads became available, the sheer demand briefly overloaded Steam, Xbox, and the eShop, and it quickly shattered the player count record of the original game.

Widely considered one of the best games of 2025, this title delivers a stunning adventure from beginning to end. It’s rare to find an indie game with such beautiful visuals and polished details – everything looks fantastic. The game offers much more to do and explore than previous versions, with each location feeling distinct. While the combat can be challenging to learn, it’s a welcome difficulty, and all players will receive the Sea of Sorrow DLC at no extra cost.

Silksong quickly became one of the most hyped games of the year, and TopMob believes it’s the absolute best.

TopMob Game of the Year 2025 Runner-Up—Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

I’ve played a lot of turn-based RPGs, and usually they do something really well – whether it’s the gameplay, the story, the voice acting, the music, or the art style. But it’s rare to find one that truly excels at everything. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 didn’t get nearly as much buzz as something like Silksong, but honestly, it quickly became one of those RPGs I absolutely had to recommend to everyone. It’s just that good!

Sandfall Interactive’s debut game was made by a talented team of developers with extensive experience on major titles. However, that didn’t guarantee its success. While some design choices felt a bit strange and could have been refined, and the issues with the AI left a slightly negative impression, the game still had potential.

Even though several other games like Hades 2, Blue Prince, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are all fantastic, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 deserves recognition too. It’s a strong contender and shouldn’t be overlooked.

This is one of the best games in years.
