While their library of original games may not be expansive, Iron Galaxy has built a strong reputation for porting games across various platforms. They’ve been instrumental in bringing the Batman Arkham series to new platforms, as well as creating PC versions of popular PlayStation exclusives like Uncharted 4. However, recent layoffs are expected to reduce the team working on future projects.

In their most recent update, Iron Galaxy announced that they had to terminate positions for 66 team members from both the development and support departments. This drastic step, described as their “last resort,” was taken to safeguard the company’s future. They acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the gaming industry and referenced the early closure of their game, Rumbleverse, as a precedent. The makers of Killer Instinct expressed that they had been making tough decisions to prevent layoffs, but ultimately, a gradual recovery necessitated this action.

Iron Galaxy Layoffs Come After Recent Studio Expansion

Noteworthy is the fact that Iron Galaxy has recently announced layoffs, even as they’ve just opened a new US office and are rumored to open another in the future. Just last June 2024, the team responsible for the PC versions of Uncharted set up shop in Nashville, Tennessee, marking their second studio location. Previously, it was also speculated that Iron Galaxy might establish an office in Austin, Texas, at some point later on.

Although it’s possible that the initial plan to establish another studio site might have shifted over time, one consistent aspect has remained – Iron Galaxy’s commitment to being a productive developer of game adaptations. In actuality, their upcoming major release is the PC version of The Last of Us Part 2, slated for release in April 2025.
