Summary
- Some fans believe Persona 4 vocalist Shihoko Hirata has been hinting at the game’s remake as of late.
- Hirata was recently working on an unannounced game in a Tokyo recording studio often used by Atlus.
- Several leakers have claimed that a Persona 4 remake was already in the pipeline as of early 2024.
Some enthusiasts of Atlus’s game Persona 4 have been observing closely the social media posts of one vocalist associated with the game, which has fueled rumors that a revamped version of this classic JRPG might be underway. However, although these rumors are currently gaining traction online, the indications supporting a potential Persona 4 remake remain speculative at this point.
On July 10th, it will be 17 years since the fourth numbered “Persona” game was first released on PS2. Interestingly, its previous installment was also 17 years old when it got a remake called “Persona 3 Reload”, launched in February 2024. Although there’s no confirmed news of a “Persona 4” remake happening soon, Atlus has recently been discussing the possibility of creating one.
Recently, fans have been closely examining social media posts by Shihoko Hirata, the vocalist for Persona 4, suspecting that her activity could be suggesting that a remake of the game is in development. Twitter user Rudiger__tw highlighted a popular post about this, pointing out that Hirata has mentioned working on an unannounced project and has been posting pictures from MIT Studio, a recording facility frequently used by Sega subsidiaries like Atlus in Tokyo’s Minato ward. Additionally, Rudiger__tw observed that Hirata has been liking Persona 4 posts lately, leading fans to speculate about a possible return of the beloved JRPG series.
Persona 4 Remake Rumors Have Been Heating Up Since 2024
Although Instagram posts might not provide strong proof, Hirata’s recent social media interactions hint that Atlus could be revisiting their 2008 JRPG title. As far back as February 2024, a reliable Sega source called Midori suggested that a remake of “Persona 4” was in progress, with Atlus also working on remaking the “Persona 2” duology at the same time. Later, another leaker known as Head on the Block claimed that the “Persona 2” project was actually a remaster, while describing the “Persona 4” remake as still in its initial stages of development, meaning it’s likely several years away from completion.
After Persona 3 Reload, a Persona 4 Remake Looks Like a Slam Dunk
Gossips about a remake of Persona 4 started gaining momentum around when Persona 3 Reload was released. The JRPG from 2024 managed to sell over 1 million copies in less than a week, making it the swiftest-selling game by Atlus at that moment – a record later broken by Metaphor: ReFantazio.
After the great achievement of “Persona 3 Reload”, it’s quite reasonable to think that Sega and Atlus might be planning a revamp of the fourth installment in the series. Yet, if they are indeed working on this project, it’s unlikely we’ll see it released before “Persona 6”, which is rumored to have been in development for a considerable amount of time.
