Summary

  • Season 2 of The Last of Us will fast-forward five years, adapting much of the game’s base storyline.
  • Fans are divided about Abby’s HBO poster revealing too much about her backstory.
  • The Last of Us season 2 will premiere on April 13, 2023, focusing more on drama than violence.

Lately, HBO’s “The Last of Us” has given its enthusiasts a sneak peek into what they can expect from season 2, through a fresh trailer filled with tantalizing hints, including the first glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby. Although most of the footage showcased Abby in flashbacks, fans of the sequel game were treated to a chilling scene where she was trapped under a fence by infected. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as they have been provided with a more detailed look at the significant character in the new posters for “The Last of Us” season 2, which also unveiled Ellie and Joel.

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must admit it’s been a long, patient wait for fellow fans since the gripping finale of The Last of Us back in 2020. But now, the fog has lifted and we’re on the brink of seeing Naughty Dog’s masterpiece come to life once more on our screens. Five years have passed in the world of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and they find themselves in Jackson, joined by Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). While season 2 might not cover every detail from The Last of Us Part 2, it promises to delve deep into the core storyline and may introduce or expand on subplots similar to how season 1 handled Bill and Frank.

Last of Us Fan Believes Abby’s HBO Poster Gives Too Much Away

A Reddit user named iamkhaleesi89 has voiced apprehension over the latest poster for HBO’s “The Last of Us” featuring Abby. In the second part of the video game, players learn that Abby is a significant member of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), a prominent faction in the game. She also has connections to the Fireflies, an organization her father, Jerry Anderson, was a surgeon within, and she was raised in Salt Lake City as part of this group.

In response to a post about Abby’s poster, iamkhaleesi89 mentioned that they felt it was problematic to depict Abby walking on a Firefly pendant, as they believe it discloses too much about her backstory before season 2 has even started. Their preference would have been to see a WLF symbol instead, or perhaps a less revealing motif, describing it as potentially spoilerish in their opinion.

For those who’ve only seen the TV series, the pendant subtly reveals Abby’s connection to the Fireflies, a detail that might be considered a spoiler since her association wasn’t revealed in season one. Those unfamiliar with the game may find it puzzling how it ties together, but gamers who’ve played it can easily understand the link.

Each poster features the quote, “Every Path has a Price,” and illustrates Ellie trekking along a guitar neck while Joel stands near his broken watch, which was once owned by his deceased daughter, Sarah. The posters subtly suggest the characters’ individual journeys through their gaze directions. According to Neil Druckmann, the team was less focused on making Abby muscular for season 2 since the narrative would be more centered around drama as opposed to the violence depicted in “Part 2.”

The Last of Us Season 2 will be released on April 13 on Max.
