Battlefield REDSEC is the next chapter for Battlefield, and while the series looks to the future, it’s worth remembering its past. Previous Battlefield games were enjoyed on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so let’s hope REDSEC is just as successful on those platforms.
We’ll always look back fondly on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation. It likely marked the last time we saw such a huge leap in graphics and gameplay between console generations. This era took us from amazing moments like the destructible environments in Battlefield 4 to a low point for the series with Battlefield 2042.
With the arrival of Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC, a new era for the series is starting – but has this progress come at the cost of leaving older players or versions behind?
Can You Play Battlefield REDSEC On PS4?
You can’t download or buy Battlefield REDSEC on the PS4. If you want to play the battle royale mode from Battlefield 6, you’ll need a PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 5 has been out for five years now, meaning we’re likely closer to the release of the PlayStation 6 than we are to looking back at the PS4 era. Despite this, it’s still surprising to see developers continuing to create versions of their games for the older PS4 console. However, this practice is becoming less common, and the recent decision to cancel the PS4 version of Battlefield REDSEC is another example of this shift.
REDSEC (also known as Battlefield 6) isn’t available on PS4. Battlefield 2042 is the most similar game you can play on that console. If you’re planning to upgrade to a newer console, you might also find Battlefield 6 for sale on Amazon.
Can You Play Battlefield REDSEC On Xbox One?
Unfortunately, Battlefield REDSEC isn’t available on Xbox One either, leaving those players out in the cold.
Games that aren’t appearing on PlayStation 4 likely won’t be released on Xbox One either. While we need to be fair, it’s clear EA is focusing on newer consoles, and there’s a good reason for that.
Battlefield 6 features much more realistic and impressive destruction thanks to being built specifically for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. By not needing to support older consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, the developers weren’t forced to limit the game’s visual capabilities, resulting in more believable explosions and building collapses.
