In the near future, the highly anticipated horror game for PlayStation 5 titled “Code Violet” is drawing inspiration directly from Capcom’s “Dino Crisis” series. The first “Dino Crisis” game was initially released in 1999 as an exclusive for the PlayStation 1, later appearing on Sega Dreamcast and PC. For those who may not be familiar with it, “Dino Crisis” provides a survival-horror experience that resembles “Resident Evil,” but with dinosaurs taking the place of zombies instead.
The strategy behind Dino Crisis proved successful: The original game garnered mainly positive reviews upon its PS1 debut and went on to sell numerous copies, sparking a new franchise for Capcom. Its sequel, Dino Crisis 2, was also praised, but Dino Crisis 3 received criticism for deviating from the series’ traditional elements and poor gameplay. Regrettably, since the controversy surrounding Dino Crisis 3 in 2003, the series has been dormant, leaving room for other studios to pick up where it left off.
One developer, TeamKill Media, has unveiled a new PS5 exclusive dinosaur horror game titled Code Violet. Known for creating the PS5 horror game Quantum Error, TeamKill refers to Code Violet as a “successor in spirit” to Dino Crisis. The trailer offers a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of 2000s horror games, with its atmosphere and visual style. The game revolves around protagonist Violet Sinclair’s struggle for survival within a future facility invaded by dinosaurs. Players will encounter velociraptors and even a T-Rex, as demonstrated in an exhilarating chase sequence where the player is attempting to flee in a jeep. In keeping with traditional survival horror gameplay, players may choose to engage the dinosaurs directly or opt for evasion and hiding strategies.
Code Violet is a New Dinosaur Horror Game for PS5
The trailer for “Code Violet” doesn’t delve deep into the gameplay, but it does hint at an over-the-shoulder camera style similar to “Resident Evil 4”. It appears that Violet, the main character, will have powerful weapons to fend off the dinosaurs she encounters in the game. Interestingly, there’s also a male character resembling Leon S. Kennedy from “Resident Evil”. For fans of horror games, particularly those with a dinosaur theme, mark your calendars as “Code Violet” is set to launch exclusively on PS5 in July 2025.
To date, the response to the Code Violet trailer has largely been unfavorable. Numerous fans have voiced their disapproval regarding the game’s graphics, which aren’t as impressive as those in other exclusive titles for PlayStation 5. Additionally, some critics have raised eyebrows over its peculiar narrative. For now, it’s best to keep an open mind until Code Violet officially releases this July. On a positive note, fans yearning for another Dino Crisis experience can find solace in the fact that it’s playable on PS5, and with a PS Plus Premium subscription, you can delve right back into that thrilling world.
