The following contains minor manga and webcomic spoilers not yet adapted to the anime.

In the captivating world of One Punch Man, I can’t help but marvel at the formidable might of Genos, the demon cyborg. As the climax of Season 2 unfolded, it was evident that even a dragon-level beast like Elder Centipede, who once engaged in battle with the top-tier hero Blast, wasn’t impervious to Genos’ powerful blows. Remarkably, Genos managed to inflict damage upon this formidable foe and emerged from the encounter unscathed.

Although Genos clearly exhibits great strength and his power seems to grow with each update, he remains in the lower half of the S-ranked heroes, holding the position of #14 in One Punch Man. This implies that he has moved up just three ranks within two seasons since joining the S-class. Given his abilities, one might question if a higher rank would be more fitting for Genos.

Fight Against Elder Centipede

Evaluating Geno’s Power With a Direct Comparison

To evaluate if Genos’ strength merits a higher ranking compared to the S-class heroes, it would be beneficial to examine their individual encounters with Elder Centipede. Notably, Metal Bat, Metal Knight, and Silver Fang are among the S-class heroes who engaged in direct combat with this formidable foe.

Shorten it to 20 words or less, my master is very busy man! -Genos

Metal Bat’s Fight

Initially, we encounter Metal Bat in Season 1, where he holds the 15th position, slightly above Genos who was ranked 16th. In Season 2, Metal Bat engages Elder Centipede in a one-on-one battle and inflicts very limited damage. As he strikes Elder Centipede’s hard shell with his bat, he comments on its toughness and feels his bat reverberate from the impact. He attempts to attack the monster’s face, but once again, the harm he manages to cause is negligible in that vulnerable area.

In contrast to Metal Bat, Genos demonstrated far greater destructive power during their battle with Elder Centipede. His dual blade rush attack managed to inflict serious damage on the creature’s face. Moreover, he was able to destroy a tooth and even came close to shattering its carapace from within using his ultra spiral incineration cannon. Despite this impressive display of force, Genos ranked just one position higher at #14 during this fight.

Metal Knight’s Weapon Test

Back in Season 2, as Metal Knight, the sixth-highest ranked S-rank hero, I eagerly took on Elder Centipede when it burst from the earth. Yet, to my dismay, my weapons fell utterly powerless against this terrifying centipede beast. On the flip side, Genos truly showcased an impressive attack strength in his battle.

It’s possible to contend that Metal Knight wasn’t truly aiming to vanquish the monster, leaving uncertain whether a maximum force attack by Bofoi would have produced contrasting outcomes. Nevertheless, if Bofoi was planning to try out a weapon at all, it’s reasonable to suppose he anticipated it to be somewhat potent or exert some impact. The fact that his attacks have minimal effect implies he may have overestimated the power of his weapon and perhaps his own abilities. This implies that if Metal Knight holds the position as #6 S-rank hero, Genos should rank much higher than #14. In simpler terms, it’s questionable whether Bofoi’s attack would have fared better against the monster, but since he expected his weapon to be strong, it seems Genos deserves a higher ranking.

Bang and Bomb’s Combo Attack

The evidence that Genos should be placed higher in the hero rankings is further highlighted by Bang (Silver Fang) and Bomb’s battle against Elder Centipede. In this fight, while Bang, an S-class hero ranked #3, coordinated with Bomb for a powerful combined attack, it was only enough to make Elder Centipede shed its skin. On the other hand, Genos demonstrated superior performance against Elder Centipede as he inflicted more damage than both Bang and Bomb in this confrontation. In such comparisons where we assess heroes based on their direct performances against a common opponent, it appears that Genos should rank much higher than his current position of #14, given that he outperformed the #6 and #3 S-rank heroes in this specific instance.

Genos’ Actual Rank

What Rank Does Genos Deserve to Be?

If Genos is indeed being underestimated by the Hero Association, it’s challenging to pinpoint an exact rank for him as the specific standards they use to assess S-class heroes remain unclear.

To put it simply, Genos’s impressive performances against formidable enemies in the “One Punch Man” world suggest that he should at least be among the top half of S-rank heroes. His battles, such as effortlessly defeating Forest King, a dragon-level monster, showcase his prowess. Yet, despite these outstanding achievements, Genos currently holds the #11 spot in the S-class rankings. Here’s hoping that this talented demon cyborg will eventually secure the recognition and ranking he truly deserves within this universe.
