In their dedication, Palworld’s creators, Pocketpair, strive to keep the game fresh with novel experiences. They’ve revealed that the Tides of Terraria update, a collaboration between Palworld and the popular indie game Terraria, is slated for release around late Summer 2025. Although this crossover may bring exceptional gaming possibilities, some players might feel that the significant update could be released a bit prematurely.
As a dedicated fan, I’m always thrilled at the prospect of more content in Palworld, such as fresh monsters, landscapes, and weaponry. The Tides of Terraria update is eagerly awaited for this reason. Yet, I find myself questioning Pocketpair’s timing with its release, given that Palworld is still in its early access phase. There are numerous fundamental aspects of the game that could benefit from further refinement, which makes me wonder if it’s premature to introduce a crossover when Palworld hasn’t quite finished perfecting its core gameplay experience yet.
Why Releasing the Tides of Terraria Update During Palworld’s Early Access Is Questionable
Among all possible collaborations for Palworld, the one with Terraria seemed quite unexpected, given that Terraria‘s 2D design is different from what we usually see in games like Palworld. However, this unique collaboration makes Pocketpair’s creation even more distinct among its competitors. Yet, while this idea sounds appealing, launching it during the early access stage of the game might hinder it from reaching its full potential for several reasons:
1. Early access games are still in development and may not have all the features planned, which could limit the crossover’s impact.
2. Players might expect a more polished experience, which an early access game may not yet offer, leading to disappointment.
3. The developers might need to prioritize fixing bugs and adding new content over implementing the crossover elements, causing delays or incomplete features.
4. The collaboration could overshadow other aspects of the game during development, potentially leading to an imbalance in the final product.
- Working on the crossover may be taking the developer’s attention away from fixing some of the main issues, minor or major, currently plaguing the game, which could bleed into the Terraria content once it arrives
- Waiting until the game was out of early access may have meant Palworld had more content and features that would have synergized well with the Terraria crossover
- Putting time and effort into the Terraria collab could mean that the game will take longer to exit its early access state, which may ultimately delay some of the final features yet to be added to the game
Considering the possible challenges, it might not be prudent to rush the collaboration between Terraria, given that Palworld’s departure from early access is imminent. Pocketpair seems to have taken this into account when planning Tides of Terraria, but ultimately, nothing is set in stone.
What Pocketpair Should Consider Doing With the Tides of Terraria Crossover
As a dedicated gamer, I would have suggested Pocketpair consider delaying their highly anticipated Tides of Terraria crossover until later in 2025. A late-year release, perhaps towards the end, could have been more beneficial for both the crossover and their upcoming game Palworld.
Delaying the crossover would allow Pocketpair to concentrate on Palworld’s early access roadmap, ensuring all necessary improvements are completed, propelling it to its 1.0 status sooner. With a stronger foundation in place, the crossover update would be more successful when introduced, even with a slight delay.
This adjustment might seem like sacrificing some momentum for the crossover, but the potential benefits for the game and overall success of the collaboration make it a worthwhile decision.
2025 may be an opportune time to re-explore Palworld, especially considering its upcoming crossover with Terraria. However, releasing it at this early stage, while it’s still in early access, carries a certain degree of risk. As the update seems like the natural progression for the game, let’s hope Pocketpair can balance this collaboration with the game’s core requirements effectively.
