Is Sony Planning an Epic PlayStation Showcase for Summer 2025? Rumors Heat Up!

Summary

  • Sony is considering airing a PlayStation Showcase in summer 2025, claims a notable insider.
  • A PlayStation Showcase hasn’t been held since May 2023, but the livestream format may finally return this year.
  • The rumored 2025 PlayStation Showcase could feature gameplay reveals for Wolverine, Ghost of Yotei, and Saros, as well as updates on more highly-anticipated first-party games.

It’s been reported that a reliable source within the company is indicating that Sony may be considering hosting a PlayStation Event this coming summer. The last time they held a PlayStation Showcase was in May 2023, since then they have opted exclusively for their State of Play broadcasts.

In the year leading up to the PS5’s release in 2020, Sony introduced a more extensive, grandiose live streaming event format known as PlayStation Showcase, compared to State of Play. This inaugural event took place in June 2020 and presented not only the launch of the PS5 but also several major first-party games such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and the remake of Demon’s Souls, among others. Since then, Sony has hosted additional PlayStation Showcase presentations in September 2020, September 2021, and May 2023.

It was noted that the 2023 PlayStation Showcase didn’t sit well with many fans, as it heavily focused on live-service first-party games. Since then, no new showcases have been aired. However, rumors suggest that Sony might broadcast a PlayStation Showcase in summer 2025. This is just one of the options Sony is considering, with the possibility of choosing between a regular State of Play and a PlayStation Showcase. If they decide on the latter, it could be an encouraging sign for gamers.

Sony Might Have a Lot to Show at the Rumored 2025 PlayStation Showcase

According to Grubb’s prediction, Sony might unveil some exciting surprises this summer, and these announcements could help build anticipation for the year 2026. Many of Sony’s exclusive studios have been silent about their ongoing projects, but enough time has passed that they can now start discussing them. One of the most anticipated titles is Insomniac Games’ Wolverine, which was initially teased at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase via a CGI trailer. It seems plausible that in the next three and a half years, we could see a gameplay reveal and release window confirmation for Wolverine. Similarly, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei, scheduled for launch in 2025, is expected to showcase its gameplay soon.

Besides that, Sony may unveil fresh information about upcoming games from their in-house studios such as Naughty Dog’s “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”, Santa Monica Studio’s new intellectual property, Guerrilla Games’ cooperative version of “Horizon”, Haven Studios’ “Fairgames”, and more at the anticipated 2025 PlayStation Showcase. It is also possible that we might get a glimpse of gameplay for Housemarque’s recently-unveiled “Saros”, as hinted by director Gregory Louden during the latest February State of Play event.
