In the realm of Solo Leveling, I bear witness to a universe where enigmatic portals, known as Gates, inexplicably appear, swarming with fearsome creatures resistant to conventional weaponry. Fortunately, an elite force of individuals, designated from S to E, armed with extraordinary abilities, stand ready to confront and neutralize these perils, averting potential catastrophes before a dungeon breach unfolds.

Among the top-tier S-rank hunters, there exist a select few who outshine even the most powerful in unconventional ways. Often coveted by guilds, these extraordinary hunters are known as National Level Hunters, a rarity to encounter but with immense impact. To delve into what sets them apart, let’s examine their background, accomplishments, and importance.

Who Are National Level Hunters?

The Five Brave S-Rankers Who Fought Dragon Kamish

  • Webtoon Debut: Chapter 78
  • Skills: Spiritual Body Manifestation and Ruler’s Authority

Prior to the unfolding of the main narrative, a formidable S-rank gate emerged on the western coast of America. Subsequently, a catastrophic dungeon rupture took place, marking one of the deadliest events in human history. Over a million innocent lives were claimed during this turmoil, and the S-rank hunters dispatched for the mission met their untimely demise. The formidable boss of this dungeon, Kamish, was an awe-inspiring dragon whose powers outmatched the strongest hunters at that time.

Well, Being A Little Frustrated Is Better Than Being Dead, I’m Sure!

The formidable Kamish appeared nearly invincible until a group of five courageous and potent S-rankers united to subdue the ferocious dungeon boss. They managed to halt the carnage and devastation wrought by the enigmatic dragon, saving countless lives in the process. In time, Kamish became known as humanity’s greatest catastrophe, while the five brave hunters were honored with the title of National-Level Hunter for their remarkable feat.

In essence, every one of these individuals was granted both political and financial incentives as a form of compensation for their immense struggles, rewards that were nearly equal to the power wielded by an entire nation. As a result, the first S-rank gate paved the way for the introduction of the prestigious National Level Hunter title. However, the manhwa specifically names only four out of the five hunters involved: Thomas Andre, Liu Zhigang, Christopher Reed, and Siddharth Bachchan. The identity of the fifth hunter, a mysterious healer, remains unveiled.

What Does It Take to Become a National-Level Hunter?

One Must at Least Clear an S-Rank Dungeon

Elite Hunters at the national level reap advantages, both political and otherwise, that many ordinary hunters scarcely imagine. Their lifestyle is opulent, and their air of superiority is frequently fueled by their influential status. The question then arises: How can one become part of this exclusive group?

In the storyline, it’s worth noting that each character holding the title of National Level Hunter has proven their mettle by vanquishing the dragon Kamish. Becoming one is no ordinary accomplishment and typically necessitates feats that are scarcely duplicable for many hunters. A National Level Hunter is expected to surpass a standard S-ranker in strength, and they should also wield abilities that outstrip those of any other hunter.

Instead, the genuine measure of their skill is demonstrated by their capability to conquer dungeons of higher rank. For instance, a powerful Class S hunter such as Cha Hae-In can manage most A-rank dungeons effortlessly. Regrettably, this isn’t sufficient to compete with National Level Hunters. To be among them, a hunter must overcome an S-rank dungeon, a feat that even the best ranked hunters often find challenging.

I Am Saying You Should Get Ready To Become Hunted.

To be acknowledged as a top-tier National Level Hunter, a hunter must not only surpass other S-rankers in strength but also successfully navigate through an S-rank gate, which are scarcely encountered. Given their rarity, it’s a formidable task to discover one. Even if found, these dungeons pose great peril and demand resources beyond what a single hunter can manage.

Is Sung Jinwoo a National Level Hunter?

Despite His Achievements, Jinwoo Still Has a Lot to Prove

Back when I was striving for the title of a National Level Hunter, I realized that it wasn’t just a casual achievement. To earn this prestigious title, there were certain prerequisites I needed to fulfill. Fast forward to my recent reevaluation, and lo and behold, I was officially upgraded to an S-rank hunter! This recognition left even the esteemed Baek Yoonho in awe, confessing that he saw me evolve into someone stronger than him. Quite a journey, isn’t it?

During the Hunters Guild Gate arc, Sung demonstrated just how formidable he could be. He took on the high orc shaman Kargalgan and his horde of A-rank minions, single-handedly conquering the dungeon with no assistance. It appeared that Jinwoo barely broke a sweat during the fight, effortlessly overpowering the monsters. By then, he had already defeated the Red Gate dungeon on his own, without needing his team’s aid.

Hunters who have witnessed his abilities and heard tales of him acknowledge his skill. Once the Hunters Guild Gate was opened, and Master Choi Jong-In learned about the event, he acknowledged that he couldn’t have cleared the dungeon on his own. These accomplishments show that Sung Jinwoo is already much stronger than most S-ranked hunters. However, does this mean he has reached the level of a National Hunter?

Despite his impressive accomplishments, Jinwoo still falls short compared to the caliber of National Level Hunters. While he’s racked up quite a few achievements, it’s important to note that Sung has not yet officially completed an S-rank dungeon. This point is crucial because, unofficially, Jinwoo did manage to conquer Demon Castle, the S-rank instant dungeon governed by Baran, the Monarch of White Flames.

It’s evident that the Korean Hunters Association hasn’t recognized this accomplishment yet, and it’s debatable whether instant dungeons are equal in rank to those found in reality. However, let’s make no mistake, defeating Baran was a significant challenge, and Jinwoo’s feat is undeniably impressive. Yet, for Jinwoo to be recognized as a top-tier National Level Hunter, he must officially conquer an S-rank dungeon according to the Association’s standards.

I Feel Like Something Within Me Is Lost Every Time I Get Stronger.

With the Korean Hunters Association’s chairman and Japan’s top hunter, Goto Ryuji, arranging another raid on an S-rank dungeon on Jeju Island, this could be a chance for Sung Jinwoo to solidify his status as a National Level Hunter. To date, only two S-rank gates have appeared – the first in America resulted in over a million deaths, and the second on Jeju Island has already taken numerous lives. As the monsters within evolve, humanity faces another potential extinction event. Successfully clearing this dungeon would demonstrate Sung Jinwoo’s uniqueness and justify his pursuit of the coveted title that few hunters even dare to aspire towards.
