Is the Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Worth It?

The enhanced edition of “Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV” is now accessible, offering an advanced take on the Switch’s top “Mario Party” game, albeit at a higher cost. During the Switch generation, Nintendo adopted a strategy of launching upgraded versions of Wii U games onto their home console/handheld hybrid to bolster their library. This approach proved fruitful, and it’s no wonder we see Nintendo replicating it on the Switch 2 with titles like “Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV”.

The initial Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games included “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom,” offering enhanced graphics and performance for these expansive open-world games on the new console. Now, one of the latest upgrades for the original Switch is “Super Mario Party Jamboree,” which takes advantage of some unique features offered by the console.

Interestingly, “Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV” sells individually for a substantial $79.99, while the upgrade pack costs only $19.99. Unlike the free upgrades for “Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom,” there’s no way to obtain the “Mario Party Jamboree” Switch 2 upgrade through a Nintendo Online + Expansion Pack subscription.

If you’re among the early Nintendo Switch 2 owners who already have Super Mario Party Jamboree and are pondering whether an upgrade is beneficial, let me share my thoughts after trying out the new features. Frankly, I found myself underwhelmed by the additions. The main draw seems to be Jamboree TV, which includes novel game modes such as Bowser Live and Carnival Coaster. Bowser Live integrates the Switch 2’s camera and microphone for exclusive mini-games that are unique, but I didn’t find them particularly compelling or worth the cost. Similarly, Carnival Coaster merges new mouse-controlled mini-games with rail shooter gameplay, but it too fell short of being impressive enough to justify the ticket price.

Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV Isn’t Worth the Asking Price

The Switch 2 Camera accessory has met with widespread disapproval among early users, as few have been willing to spend $55 on this device. Its performance is underwhelming, and setting it up for optimal use in a standard living room setup for Bowser Live proves more challenging than necessary. I encountered similar difficulties while using the Switch 2 Camera during my playthrough of the poorly-received Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. While some users may experience better results with higher-quality USB-C cameras, even after making adjustments to positioning and lighting, I found that, despite being functional, the Switch 2 Camera simply doesn’t perform well enough to make it a worthwhile investment given the frustration it causes. The content within Bowser Live is not engaging enough to compensate for the time spent troubleshooting the camera.

From a thrilled fan’s perspective, I find Carnival Coaster more engaging compared to others. The rail shooter segments may be standard and rather unremarkable, but they’re harmless and offer some fun. A few of the mouse-based mini-games are entertaining, although nothing really stands out as groundbreaking or exceptional.

The innovative addition of the new mouse-controlled mini-games to the core Super Mario Party Jamboree experience is a welcome one, adding a touch of freshness to the game boards. However, I’m not entirely convinced that it justifies a $20 price tag.

In August 25th, 2025, you’ll find the upcoming Switch 2 Edition title, titled “Kirby and the Lost Realms & Star-Bound Worlds“.

The new version, “Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV,” comes with the standard enhancements you’d find in an updated game. However, it’s important to note that “Super Mario Party Jamboree” wasn’t a game that would significantly improve with these upgrades. In terms of Nintendo Switch 2 improvements, “Super Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV” might not be worth the purchase.
