Is This Why Kubfu Can’t Evolve in Pokemon GO? Players Have a Theory!

Summary

  • Players speculate Urshifu may be introduced later in the current Pokemon GO season.
  • Urshifu’s potential inclusion in the game could follow a similar pattern to past Pokemon introductions in Pokemon GO events.
  • Pokemon GO fans anticipate the release of Urshifu’s different forms, as well as the upcoming addition of Nickit and Thievul in March events.

Players of Pokemon GO have a theory that the absence of Kubfu’s evolution in the game might mean that Urshifu will be introduced later during this season, as the game prepares to introduce more Pokemon from Generation 8 in the upcoming months.

The new season for Pokemon GO, titled Might and Mastery, began worldwide on March 5, marking the arrival of the Gen 8 bear Pokemon Kubfu. Players can acquire Kubfu within Pokemon GO at no cost by completing the season’s ongoing Special Research or through the Power Potential Event, which ends on March 10. Interestingly, players who have previously added Kubfu to their Pokedex may find that it cannot evolve into Urshifu yet. Although Urshifu has been hinted at in the latest Might and Mastery trailers, many fans expected its release to happen sooner. The lack of Urshifu’s arrival in the game has left some players disappointed, but there are theories circulating among fans about how this Pokemon might eventually appear in the game.

In the Pokemon GO Reddit forum, user ZaxAlchemist expressed their annoyance about their Dynamax Kubfu not being able to evolve, and also cannot be given away or traded. Underneath this post, fellow Pokemon GO enthusiast beejalton speculated that Urshifu will probably become accessible during the Might and Mastery season, possibly through a new research task. Another user, Legitimate_Load_6841, hypothesized that Urshifu’s introduction could mirror Naganadel’s in 2024. Players may recall how Poipole, an Ultra Beast, was added at the beginning of Pokemon GO’s 14th season, World of Wonders, in March 2024. However, its evolution wasn’t presented until a special event in late May 2024. Since then, players have been able to evolve their Poipole into Naganadel within Pokemon GO. As such, it is plausible that Urshifu’s debut will follow the same pattern, and players might need to wait for a future event centered around it.

Kubfu’s Evolution Might Be Available in Pokemon GO Through an Event

It’s important to mention that Urshifu has two distinct forms – Single Strike Style and Rapid Strike Style, which might lead some players to acquire multiple Kubfus to have both versions. Furthermore, Urshifu has Dynamax and Gigantamax forms. The latest trailers for Pokemon GO suggest that a Dynamax version of Urshifu is expected during the current season, potentially leading to Max Battles in the future. However, whether or not Gigantamax Urshifu will be added remains uncertain. On another note, recent confirmations indicate that Nickit and Thievul from Generation 8 will be joining Pokemon GO, and they’ll make their appearance during the Deep Depths event on March 19.

In March 2025, multiple Pokémon GO events are set to take place, with the Fuecoco Community Day happening on March 8 being one of them. The Pokémon GO Might and Mastery season will conclude on June 3.
