A fresh job posting on Xbox has sparked discussions among fans about the possibility of Microsoft establishing a new game studio internally. Although they already possess a substantial number of development teams associated with Xbox, there are rumors that another studio might have stealthily joined their ranks in the recent past.
Currently, Xbox has more than 30 game development studios under its umbrella, distributed across three main sectors: Xbox Game Studios, ZeniMax Media, and Activision Blizzard. The majority of these studios were acquired; however, a few, including The Coalition, Halo Studios (previously known as 343 Industries), Turn 10 Studios, The Initiative, and World’s Edge, are homegrown teams. The most recent addition to this roster is The Initiative, based in Santa Monica, established in 2018, and currently working on the revival of Perfect Dark.
It’s worth noting that The Initiative, during its early stages, encountered some initial issues. However, the development of the Perfect Dark reboot now seems to be progressing at a steady pace. Interestingly, Microsoft could be in the process of establishing a completely new game development studio, as suggested by a recent job posting for an “experienced Executive Producer.” The job listing indicates that the chosen candidate will oversee an unnamed game development team within the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area. Notably, Microsoft has not yet begun accepting applications for this position until late February, which implies that this new team is likely being formed from scratch and will be headed by an Executive Producer in the future.
Xbox Might Have Established a Brand-New Game Studio
Industry insider eXtas1s, who initially spotted the job listing, recently suggested on Twitter that this supposedly new Xbox team might actually be a “high-level secret.” He added that openings like this typically occur when a “brand-new, undisclosed studio” is being formed. The source speculates that Microsoft could soon unveil major news about this secret group, similar to how it announced The Initiative along with the addition of five new studios to the Xbox brand at E3 2018. However, it’s also possible that the job listing is for multiple teams rather than one specific team, which would explain why no studio names were mentioned in the post. Only time will reveal whether this theory holds true.
If a secret new Xbox studio is being formed, it might take some time before we know what projects they’re working on. However, Xbox fans can look forward to an array of exciting games in the near future, with titles like “Doom: The Dark Ages”, “Avowed”, “South of Midnight”, “Ninja Gaiden 4”, and “Fable” scheduled for release as early as 2025. There’s a possibility that additional games may also be added to this lineup.
