It Costs Up To $288,000 To Show Your Game At Gamescom ONL

As a dedicated gaming enthusiast with years of experience following the industry, I’ve grown accustomed to the extravagant prices associated with showcasing games at major events like Gamescom Opening Night Live (ONL). However, the latest pricing information has left me in awe.

If you’d like to have your game featured during Gamescom Opening Night Live (ONL), be prepared to make a significant investment.

According to TechRaptor’s discovery, the highest price tag for a main show appearance is around $288,000 (€265,000), which includes a 120-second slot during the broadcast. The cost decreases if you opt for fewer seconds: $234,000 (€215,000) for 90 seconds, $179,600 (€165,000) for 60 seconds, and approximately $125,000 (€115,000) for a 30-second spot.

If you’d prefer to save money on the main event, consider participating in the pre-show instead. The cost, however, is still substantial. Here are the prices for different durations:

Although the price is steep, surprisingly, many studios are still eager to secure a spot on the main stage at Gamescom ONL; all available slots have already been claimed. However, there’s good news if your budget is tighter – you can still reserve a spot for the pre-show event.

Surprisingly, the high prices for Summer Game Fest aren’t a recent development. It’s said that a single minute of screen time cost around $250,000 this year. If you wanted to showcase for 2.5 minutes, the expense would be over half a million dollars.

As someone who has been in the indie game development scene for several years, I can attest to the financial challenges that come with creating and marketing a small game. The costs associated with participating in large industry events like these broadcasts can be prohibitively expensive for many developers. While it’s inspiring to see the prices of some games, I understand that not every game needs to pay that hefty price tag. It’s important to remember the diversity and breadth of the gaming world, with indie titles often offering unique and innovative experiences that might not come from larger studios. So, while it’s a treat to see the high-profile games on display, I appreciate the opportunities provided for smaller developers as well.

Gamescom ONL 2024 airs on August 20 at 2pm ET, the day before Gamescom 2024 officially begins.
