Many consider *Breaking Bad* to be one of the best TV shows ever created, and a lot of that is thanks to the brilliant writing of Vince Gilligan. However, the show’s incredible cast was equally important to its success. Bryan Cranston famously played Walter White, the chemistry teacher diagnosed with cancer, and won an Emmy for his performance. But Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, truly gave the show its heart. Paul’s career has flourished since then, and now, after years of success in television (*Breaking Bad*, *Westworld*, *Bojack Horseman*), he’s taking on his first video game role as Robert Robertson in the upcoming superhero comedy *Dispatch*, developed by AdHoc Studio.
Game developers are always searching for talented voice actors who can bring truly unique performances to their games. Considering Aaron Paul is known for his distinctive, emotional voice, it’s surprising he’s only now starting to work in the gaming world. However, Paul explains he was waiting for the perfect role. In a recent interview with Game Rant, Paul discussed his role as Robert Robertson in *Dispatch*, a character who goes from superhero to emergency dispatcher, and shared what finally convinced him to become a video game character for the first time.
For Aaron Paul, Dispatch “Checked All the Boxes”

In the game *Dispatch*, Aaron Paul plays the main character, a superhero called Mecha Man. After his powerful mech-suit is damaged in a fight, he has to take a temporary job at a dispatch center while it’s being fixed. It seems like a funny premise for a comedy about work, but Paul was drawn to the story’s depth, making this his first time voicing a video game character. He explained what convinced him to join the project:
I’ve always been a fan of video games, but I hadn’t found a project that truly excited me until now. Because I also work with animation, I’m used to high quality work, so I’m a bit picky. This project, however, felt perfect. There was a lot to read – eight very detailed scripts – but the accompanying preview footage and a beautifully animated scene with temporary voice acting immediately drew me in. I really connected with the overall feel of it.
The fact that Aaron Paul chose Dispatch as his first video game project is really telling, especially since he’d previously declined every gaming role offered to him. When a well-respected actor is so careful about what they choose, it immediately boosts the project’s credibility – and also creates high expectations. It suggests Dispatch isn’t just a game with a famous face attached, but a compelling story that genuinely attracted an actor known for being selective.

While the game’s storyline was a major draw for Paul, his decision to join the project was also influenced by his friend, Jeffrey Wright. Paul and Wright previously worked together on *Westworld*, and when Wright signed on to *Dispatch*, Paul knew the game would be exceptional. He was excited about the prospect of collaborating with Wright again.
I was immediately drawn to the project because the team involved was highly respected in the industry. When I learned Jeffrey Wright was on board, and then read the scripts, it all made sense. The story is fantastic – really engaging, often hilarious, but also surprisingly moving and intense. The more I read, the more I connected with the characters and their journeys. It quickly became clear this was a project I had to be a part of; it was an easy decision.
I’ve been checking out *Dispatch*, and honestly, Robert Robertson seems like there’s a lot more to him than just what you see on the surface. I think the whole cast is going to be amazing, actually. What’s really got me hyped is that this is Paul’s first video game role – knowing his work in things like *Breaking Bad*, I have a feeling *Dispatch* is going to be seriously emotionally impactful. Plus, with big names like Jeffrey Wright, Laura Bailey, and Matthew Mercer involved, it’s clear they’re aiming for a really engaging and entertaining experience.
