It’s Official, Boruto’s Powerscaling Is Fully Broken

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

The latest arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is packed with action and moving quickly, delivering exciting new battles with each chapter. Fans have been enjoying the combat sequences over the past two years, and the current storyline focusing on Boruto Uzumaki and the Shinju is particularly thrilling. As Mamushi’s attack on Konoha intensifies, the battles are living up to expectations, with the fight between Mamushi and Boruto already being a major highlight.

Boruto has been using shadow clones in battle, and more are appearing. Recently, fans have criticized Boruto, and with good reason. In shonen series, maintaining a consistent power level for characters is crucial. However, Boruto’s power scaling feels off, and the latest chapter highlights this – some of the weaker characters unexpectedly defeated much stronger opponents.

Boruto Has Introduced Many Big Monsters In The Series

  • Shinju Are The Strongest Fighters In The Boruto Series
  • Otsutsuki Continue To Be A Big Threat

The Boruto series has featured a lot of powerful enemies. It started with the introduction of Momoshiki Otsutsuki and others of his clan, and then expanded to include the dangerous Inners of Kara, each presenting a major challenge to Boruto and the entire ninja world. Over time, even more formidable opponents have appeared, and they’ve consistently become stronger.

The ninja world is currently facing a major threat from creatures called the Shinju. These monsters were created from the Ten-Tails by Code, and they’re exceptionally powerful. When they first appeared, it was obvious to fans that their abilities far surpassed most characters. Even Code, at the peak of his power after meeting Amado, had difficulty fighting them. Boruto Uzumaki, despite training with both Sasuke Uchiha and Kashin Koji, also found it challenging to defeat the Shinju.

The story initially established the Shinju as far more powerful than any previous enemy in Boruto, with each one being stronger than a typical Otsutsuki. However, recent chapters have diminished this established power level. Now, the Shinju are being defeated by ordinary shinobi who shouldn’t be able to compete, creating inconsistencies in the series’ power scaling and making it difficult to follow.

The Powerscaling In Boruto Doesn’t Make Any Sense At All

  • Boruto Has Broken The Powerscaling Fully

When the story first introduced the Shinju, many viewers were puzzled by how regular ninja could fight on equal footing with such a powerful being. Initially, this didn’t seem like a major issue, but it’s become apparent that the author doesn’t prioritize consistent power levels, or struggles to maintain them. For example, during the Sand Village arc, Boruto and his team unexpectedly had difficulty against the Shinju, signaling that these creatures were far more powerful. This seemed to reinforce the author’s earlier claim that the Shinju were threats comparable to the Otsutsuki clan.

So, you’ve given up on the future. You just want to end things – both my life and your own existence, it seems. Unless… unless you see a way to be free. These gods we’re dealing with are dangerous to us both. Are you going to help me, or not? – Boruto Uzumaki speaking to Momoshiki Otsutsuki in chapter 29 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Honestly, it was so wild seeing characters like Araya and Yodo actually go toe-to-toe with the Shinju in terms of power! At first, everyone figured it was just a lucky break, but then Konohamaru – Konohamaru! – nearly defeated one of them! And that’s what really blew my mind, because he’s not even close to being as strong as your typical Kage, yet he was battling someone on the Otsutsuki level. It just didn’t seem to add up!

Mamushi Broke Boruto’s Powerscaling

Later in the story, Ikemoto introduced an even more unusual ability. When Mamushi attacked Konoha, it was obvious he’d be a serious threat to the village’s ninja, largely due to his powerful ninjutsu. Mamushi can create multiple clones of himself. These aren’t typical shadow clones, though. Shadow clones divide a user’s chakra and weaken their overall strength. However, this limitation doesn’t apply to Mamushi.

Mamushi can create an unlimited number of copies of himself without losing any power or energy. However, each time he divides, his intelligence decreases. — Kashin Koji

Mamushi’s clones are just as strong as the original because they don’t divide his power or chakra. The only thing that decreases when he creates a clone is his intelligence, which has been shown throughout the story. So, even when he made over fifty clones, his overall strength remained unchanged – each clone possessed the same powerful abilities he originally demonstrated, comparable to those of the Otsutsuki clan.

Chocho Was Able To Take Down Mamushi’s Otsutsuki Level Clones

  • Chocho Is A Very Weak Genin
  • Her Powers Make No Sense

The latest Boruto episode featured a surprising turn of events: minor characters like Chocho easily defeating powerful, clone versions of the Otsutsuki using a basic Expansion jutsu. This doesn’t really make sense, as Chocho isn’t strong enough to defeat enemies at that level. While the clones created by Mamushi aren’t as intelligent as they used to be, they shouldn’t be defeated by a simple technique that characters from the original Naruto series could perform.

Otsutsuki characters are established as being incredibly durable and powerful enough to defeat even unintelligent opponents. This recent portrayal doesn’t fit with that established power level and significantly damages the consistency of power scaling in the Boruto series.

Boruto Needs A Better Direction In Writing

The power levels in the Boruto series have always been confusing, but the recent manga chapter makes them even more inconsistent. Many fans thought characters like Boruto and Sarada had become stronger than Naruto and Sasuke, but the current storyline—where even characters like Chocho are defeating incredibly powerful enemies—shows that Naruto and Sasuke would easily defeat the new generation. It’s become clear that the power scaling isn’t working as expected.

This development excites fans, suggesting these characters will return with incredible strength. However, it also highlights a significant problem with the series’ power levels, which now seem completely unbalanced, and there’s likely no fixing it.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the continuation of the Boruto series, created by Mikio Ikemoto with supervision from Masashi Kishimoto. Set three years after the events of the Omnipotence arc, the story follows Boruto Uzumaki as he strives to protect the world and navigate his relationship with his brother, Kawaki. Chapter 30 is scheduled to be released on January 20, 2026, at 10 AM EST / 3 PM UTC. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
