After an eight-year wait, Dragon Ball Super is returning with a brand new look! At the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, celebrating the anime’s 40th anniversary, it was announced that a Dragon Ball Super remake will premiere in Fall 2026. Following that, an adaptation of the Moro Saga from the manga, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, is in the works, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Fans have been wondering what’s next for the Dragon Ball franchise since Dragon Ball DAIMA finished airing in early 2025. Many hoped for either a continuation of DAIMA, a new movie, or more chapters in Toyotarou’s Dragon Ball Super manga. A remake of Dragon Ball Super has been discussed for some time, and now that it’s happening, it’s a good sign for the future of the series. This gives the anime a chance to improve the animation, cut out unnecessary scenes, include content only found in the manga, and properly build up to the exciting storylines featuring Moro and Granolah. The Dragon Ball Super Remake Officially Brings the Anime Back in Fall 2026

A remake of Dragon Ball Super is planned to premiere on Fuji TV in Fall 2026, starting with a new anime called Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. This series will essentially revisit the story of the Beerus Saga, expanding on both Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and the original Dragon Ball Super Beerus Saga. It will feature updated animation, extra scenes taken from the manga, and a faster-paced narrative.

The remake of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a complete overhaul of the original. The official Dragon Ball website explains that it includes significant new footage, edited scenes, and completely re-rendered visuals. All dialogue has been re-recorded with new music and sound effects, and the entire story has been rebuilt. This “Enhanced Edition” uses modern visual techniques to make every scene, especially the action sequences, more powerful and immersive. The goal is to more faithfully represent Akira Toriyama’s original vision with a significantly improved viewing experience.

Sources familiar with the Dragon Ball franchise have revealed plans for the future of the anime. It’s expected that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will have six episodes, followed by a remake of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F under the new title Dragon Ball Super: Golden Frieza. After that, the plan is to remake all the major story arcs—or Sagas—as Dragon Ball Super installments, leading up to an anime adaptation of Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. This will follow a remake of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The timing of The Galactic Patrol’s release depends on how quickly the remakes of Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, the Universe 6 Tournament, the Goku Black Saga, the Tournament of Power, and Broly are completed. Currently, a late 2027 release is possible, but early 2028 seems more likely.

The Dragon Ball Super Manga’s Moro Saga is Finally Getting Animated

Fans of Dragon Ball have been waiting a long time, but the Moro Saga will eventually be animated – likely in 2027 or 2028, depending on how quickly the Dragon Ball Super remake progresses. This storyline, also known as the Moro Arc, was originally created for the manga by Toyotarou and is considered one of the best arcs in Dragon Ball Super. The timing depends on finishing the remake and not taking any breaks between story parts.

The Moro Arc successfully blends the classic feel of early Dragon Ball Z with the imaginative style of Toei’s non-canon films, giving each of the Z-Fighters a chance to stand out in exciting and inventive battles. Beyond the action, the arc greatly expands the world of Dragon Ball Super. It deepens our understanding of Angels and Ultra Instinct, and introduces a variety of new alien species as the villain Moro journeys across the universe, consuming planets to increase his power.

The Moro Saga in Dragon Ball Super offers the most significant character growth for both Vegeta and Goku since the original Dragon Ball Z series. Vegeta is forced to reckon with his past actions on Namek, showcasing how far he’s come from being a villain. Meanwhile, Goku gains a valuable teacher in Merus, who helps him master the Ultra Instinct technique. With exciting battles, surprising plot twists, and dedicated training for both heroes, the Moro Arc is expected to generate a huge buzz when Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is released in late 2027 or early 2028.

Dragon Ball Super Gets an Official Rebrand

Dedicated fans of Dragon Ball will have noticed that Dragon Ball Super has a fresh new look. The series’ logo has been updated – instead of the gold lettering for “Super,” it’s now a striking blue. Also, the franchise is now consistently naming each story arc, similar to how Dragon Ball Super: Broly was presented.

Currently, titles only exist for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. However, it’s likely that future story arcs will be released as Dragon Ball Super: Golden Frieza, Dragon Ball Super: Universe 6, Dragon Ball Super: Goku Black, Dragon Ball Super: Tournament of Power, Dragon Ball Super: Granolah, and eventually, after Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is updated, as Dragon Ball Super: Black Frieza.
