Now, with its follow-up series, Jujutsu Kaisen is bringing a major storyline to a close, as its core power source, cursed energy, is being permanently removed.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Power System Is One Of The Best In Modern Shonen
Jujutsu Kaisen stands out as having one of the best power systems in recent popular anime and manga. The story revolves around ‘cursed energy,’ which is generated from negative human emotions. Some people can control this energy, but Japan has particularly high levels of it. This often causes cursed spirits – malevolent beings – to emerge and cause trouble throughout the country.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, people who control cursed energy are called Jujutsu Sorcerers, while those who use it for harm are known as Curse Users. Controlling cursed energy isn’t simple – it ranges from just making yourself stronger to developing completely original abilities. Skilled users can even transform cursed energy into positive energy, which can heal injuries – this is called reverse cursed energy. Cursed techniques can also be flipped to create opposite effects, like Gojo Satoru’s Red or Dabura Karaba’s Darkness. Beyond that, there are powerful barrier abilities, and when combined with a user’s innate technique, they create Domain Expansion – a technique that drastically boosts the user’s power and guarantees a hit that can’t be avoided. The power system in Jujutsu Kaisen is complex and exciting, but unfortunately, it’s coming to an end in the sequel, as cursed energy will no longer exist in the future.

Jujutsu Kaisen Is Ending Cursed Energy Forever
Maru’s Technique Ended Most Cursed Energy
As shown in the recent events of Jujutsu Kaisen, Cursed Energy is disappearing from most future generations. A small group in Japan has long desired this outcome, as Cursed Energy is the source of dangerous Cursed Spirits and the destruction they cause. While Yuki Tsukumo hoped to eliminate Cursed Energy entirely, others like Kenjaku aimed to improve it. Geto Suguru, on the other hand, simply wanted to wipe out everyone who couldn’t use it.
Maru accomplished everyone’s goal in a surprising way. They combined the power of Harmony with Yuta’s Ring – a source of immense cursed energy – and Pure Mul, a rare material Dura mined on Simuria. This was then combined with a technique called Idle Transfiguration, which Maru obtained from Mahito. It’s important to remember that, according to established lore, most people in Japan still possess some level of cursed energy.

Cursed Energy naturally arises from negative feelings, meaning it will always be present in some form. It can only be truly eliminated in extremely rare situations, like with Maki and Toji, who were born with limitations. However, Maru has managed to significantly decrease the amount of Cursed Energy, so future generations will only have very small amounts left. This means they won’t inherit any cursed techniques, effectively ending the age of sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen.
The Current Generation Of Sorcerers Will Continue To Hold On To Cursed Energy
Existing sorcerers and the Simurians will maintain their current power levels and abilities. However, future generations will be born with significantly less cursed energy, making large-scale outbreaks of cursed spirits unlikely. Only a few cursed spirits will appear each year, and they should be manageable for the current sorcerers, particularly with Yuji Itadori still active.
