This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.
After years of hard work and following the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki finally achieved his lifelong dream of becoming the Hokage. He was widely considered the most powerful ninja in the world, with his only true equal being his friend, Sasuke Uchiha.
Throughout the Boruto series, Naruto Uzumaki initially maintained a strong position, successfully handling challenges from enemies like Momoshiki Otsutsuki and the members of Kara. However, as the story progressed, the writers diminished Naruto’s role, ultimately shifting the focus to a new generation of ninja.
Naruto Uzumaki gradually lost his abilities, with the most significant loss being his Six Paths Sage Mode. Considering the way the Boruto series is progressing, it’s clear this marks the end of Naruto’s time as a powerful ninja, and he likely won’t regain those powers.
Naruto’s Biggest Loss In Boruto Wasn’t Kurama
- Naruto Lost Kurama, But Six Paths Senjutsu Was A Bigger Loss
- Kurama died after the usage of Baryon Mode
- Six Paths Senjutsu was non-existent after Kurama’s death
It’s clear that Naruto’s portrayal in the Boruto series significantly damaged his established legacy, a result of choices made by both Kishimoto and Ikemoto. Naruto Uzumaki was a beloved and inspirational figure, so seeing his character diminished was a letdown for many fans of the original Naruto series.
You be good, Naruto. And don’t join me too soon. — Kurama to Naruto Uzumaki
The first signs that Naruto was losing his power appeared at the start of the fight against Jigen. He and Sasuke both found they couldn’t access their full abilities. This became official during the battle with Isshiki, when Naruto lost the power of Kurama, a loss many fans see as his most significant.
When I really think about what Naruto lost, it wasn’t just Kurama’s power, but something much bigger: the Six Paths Senjutsu. A lot of fans mix this up with Six Paths Sage Mode or the abilities he got from the tailed beasts. To understand exactly what he lost, we have to go back to the Fourth Great Ninja War. That’s when Naruto received a bunch of power boosts in the first place.
- Kurama Chakra: The first power-up came through Kurama, who willingly allowed Naruto to utilize all his chakra pool.
- Tailed Beast Power: The second power came through other Tailed Beasts, all of whom shared a portion of their own chakra with Naruto Uzumaki, essentially making him a pseudo Jinchuriki of the Ten Tails.
- Finally, Naruto received Six Paths Senjutsu from none other than the Sage of Six Paths.
It’s important for fans to remember that Naruto can use the Six Paths Senjutsu power on its own, without needing the power of the Tailed Beasts. We see this clearly right after he returns during the war, when he deflects Madara’s truth-seeking orb and then uses a Lava Release Rasenshuriken to cut both Madara and the God Tree in half.
As a huge Naruto fan, I was so confused when they just… took away his Six Paths Senjutsu in Boruto! It was so obvious during the war that he unlocked it directly from Hagoromo, completely separate from Kurama or any of the other Tailed Beasts. That power should have stuck with him, even after losing Kurama. It honestly feels like the writers did that just to create a storyline where Naruto seems weaker, which is a really disappointing way to handle such an established power!
Naruto Also Lost Six Paths Sage Mode Without A Reason
- Boruto Writers Have Nerfed Naruto Tremendously
Things went badly for Naruto Uzumaki after that. He was reduced to using basic Sage Mode, but even that wasn’t as strong as usual during his fight with Code. He couldn’t do much on his own and had to be rescued by the younger generation, a storyline the Boruto series heavily emphasized, much to the frustration of many fans.
Things are different now. I feel truly limitless. — Naruto, empowered by Six Paths Senjutsu
Right after that storyline, Naruto Uzumaki was sealed away by Kawaki, and he hasn’t appeared in the series since. Many fans feel the Boruto series has negatively impacted Naruto’s character, and they’re eager for either his return or for the series to end before further damage is done.
Sasuke Uchiha faced a similar fate to Naruto in the Boruto series. He gradually lost his abilities and was ultimately sealed away after being infected by a Claw Grime and used to create a being called Hidari. Fans are eager to see Sasuke freed, which will only happen when Hidari is defeated. However, most agree that the best way to honor the original characters is for the Boruto storyline to conclude properly.
It’s Time To Accept Naruto Will Never Be The Same In Boruto
- Naruto Uzumaki Is No Longer The Hero Fans Looked Up To
As the Boruto series progresses, Naruto Uzumaki will likely be significantly different from the character fans remember. The show is clearly prioritizing the new generation and their storylines, often overlooking the contributions and importance of the original characters who built the ninja world. Even if Naruto returns, it’s widely expected that he won’t receive the focus or respect he deserves in this sequel.
Come, Otsutsuki! I’ll show you what the true resolve of a shinobi is like. — Naruto Uzumaki
The situation is similar for Sasuke Uchiha, and fans of characters like Sakura Haruno and Kakashi Hatake likely don’t expect their favorites to have significant roles in the Boruto series either.
Ultimately, this sequel series hasn’t been very successful, and the best course of action now is to conclude it, preserving what remains of Naruto Uzumaki’s legacy. However, the series is currently on track to continue for another three or four years, meaning fans will have to wait quite a while before the story truly returns to Naruto Uzumaki.
