This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
The Uchiha clan was once a powerful and influential family in the village of Konoha. At its founding, the Uchiha shared leadership with the Senju clan. Though neither family holds that same power today, the Uchiha still exist. Sasuke Uchiha currently leads the clan, and his daughter Sarada is poised to lead the next generation.
The Uchiha clan’s unique visual power, the Sharingan, remains strong, with Sarada recently awakening her Mangekyo Sharingan and continuing the clan’s lineage. However, the most powerful form of the Sharingan, the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, is destined to disappear completely in the Boruto series. While this is a loss, a new and interesting development is being introduced in its place.
The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan Will Officially Die With Sasuke In Boruto
- Only Sasuke And Madara Had The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
- Sarada Cannot Get The Full Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
As fans of the Boruto series know, the Sharingan eye has a fascinating development. It’s fundamentally linked to experiencing loss and the resulting hatred. The Sharingan typically awakens from a significant shock, but to reach its more powerful form, the Mangekyo Sharingan, a person must suffer intense grief over the loss of someone they love. This grief fuels a ‘curse of hatred,’ and the stronger that hatred becomes, the more powerful the Sharingan grows.
The Mangekyo Sharingan is incredibly powerful, but it comes with a dangerous drawback: using it gradually leads to blindness. The only way to stop this is to evolve it into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. This can be achieved by transplanting the eyes of a close family member, like a sibling, into your own.
Light always comes with darkness, and success always creates those who fall. The pursuit of peace, when driven by self-interest, often leads to conflict. Even love requires the existence of hatred. – Madara Uchiha, Naruto
Madara Uchiha was the first ninja to awaken the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. He obtained this power by receiving the eyes of his brother, who gave them to him before dying in battle with Tobirama Senju. Later, Sasuke Uchiha also achieved the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan after Itachi’s death, gaining the ability by taking Itachi’s eyes.
Sarada Will Have To Figure Out A New Way To Avoid Permanent Blindness
image by Manga Plus Sasuke continues to wield the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan in the Boruto series, but he’s likely the last one who will. There’s currently no way for Sarada to obtain an eye that would allow her Mangekyo Sharingan to become eternal.
Sarada has unlocked the Mangekyo Sharingan, which comes with a price. Like others who’ve used it, her eyesight will deteriorate. However, unlike Madara and Sasuke, Sarada won’t have anyone to transplant eyes to her, as Sasuke is still alive and only has one eye himself. Unless Sasuke passes away, Sarada won’t be able to receive his eye.
Okay, so I just activated my Sharingan, and honestly, it’s like everything clicked into place! I finally get it. No more hesitation – I’m ready to do what needs to be done. That’s what I’ve been training for! – Sarada Uchiha, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, intentionally kept Sasuke Uchiha alive, which suggests Sarada will find a solution to the blindness caused by the Mangekyo Sharingan. Both Sasuke and her mother, Sakura, could play a key role in helping her with this.
Using the Mangekyo Sharingan always leads to blindness, eventually. Itachi was able to use his for a long time, but by his fight with Sasuke, he could barely see. Sasuke, however, pushed his Sharingan so hard that he was nearly blinded in only a few months.
Sarada’s current ability won’t last forever, and she’ll eventually need a different way to fight if she goes blind. That’s where Sakura can help.
Sakura’s Creation Rebirth Could Aid Sarada Uchiha
As many fans are aware, Sakura possesses the Byakugou power. This ability, unlocked through meticulous chakra storage over time, grants her incredibly powerful regeneration for a limited duration. While active, Sakura can withstand any injury – even severe ones like being split in two or losing her head – and fully recover.
If Sarada masters this ability, she’ll be able to heal her eyes without needing to unlock the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan to reach their full potential.
While this won’t happen for a while, it seems certain to occur eventually. Currently, Sakura is Sarada’s only chance for progress, which is great because it also means Sakura will have a significant and important part to play in what happens next.
