It’s Time to Admit Luffy and the Straw Hats Are Still Too Weak In One Piece

This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.

The Straw Hat Pirates are at the heart of the One Piece story, with Luffy leading the way. Viewers have been with them since their early days in East Blue, and they’ve become much stronger as a team over the past two years. But the challenges they face keep getting bigger, and it’s clear that, even as one of the Yonko crews, the Straw Hats are still not strong enough to handle the dangers awaiting them in Elbaf.

Imu is significantly more powerful than both Rocks and Roger. Currently, the Straw Hats aren’t strong enough to challenge him. While Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are powerful, they still haven’t reached their full potential. The rest of the crew also needs to master Haki – it’s essential for a crew aiming to be at the level of the Yonko.

Luffy Is No Match for Imu And His Crew Remains Weak

  • Zoro Has No Control Over His Conqueror’s Haki
  • Sanji Has Yet to Even Unlock Conqueror’s Haki

The Elbaf arc has been full of surprises, and most fans didn’t anticipate Imu becoming the central villain. There was some speculation that Imu’s power would be weakened by being used through another person, but they remain incredibly strong, regardless of whether that’s happening. Imu would likely defeat even Luffy in his Gear 5 form. In chapter 1163 of One Piece, a combined attack from legendary pirates like Rocks, Roger, Whitebeard, Garp, Big Mom, and Kaido couldn’t even scratch Imu, which highlights just how overwhelming the current situation is.

Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji – the Monster Trio – still need to get much stronger, particularly with their Haki abilities. Zoro recently learned he had Conqueror’s Haki without even realizing it, and Sanji probably has it too but hasn’t awakened it yet. Despite their high bounties, the trio currently lacks the means to defeat enemies who can’t be killed by normal attacks.

Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbe Are the Only Strong Haki Users

The Rest of the Straw Hat Pirates Are Below Yonko Crew Expectations

Currently, only the Monster Trio (Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji) and Jinbe on the Straw Hat crew have demonstrated both Armament and Observation Haki. This is a relatively small number of Haki users compared to other Yonko crews, such as the Red Hair Pirates, Beast Pirates, and Big Mom Pirates, who typically have more crew members skilled in these abilities.

For the Straw Hats to be considered a true Yonko crew, it’s likely that every member will need to learn at least one form of Haki. As the challenges they face become more dangerous in the Final Saga, the rest of the crew can’t put off learning Haki any longer. The events on Elbaf could be when the author, Oda, finally addresses this.

No matter what challenges lie ahead, it’s clear that Luffy, even with his Gear 5 transformation, isn’t strong enough to defeat Imu. The Straw Hat crew also isn’t prepared to face the Holy Knights yet. They need to become significantly more powerful, and fast, or their adventure will likely end in disaster.

The next chapter of One Piece is coming out this week, as it’s released every Sunday. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most international fans will be able to read it on November 2nd. You can find the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
