It’s Time To Admit That Naruto Uzumaki Has Been Ruined In Boruto

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

Among all the memorable characters in the Boruto series, Naruto Uzumaki is widely considered the most iconic. This isn’t surprising, considering he’s the central figure the entire franchise is built around. As the original series’ beloved protagonist, fans connect with Naruto’s personal battles and his inspiring journey to overcome hardship and rejection. His determination and unwavering spirit make him a truly remarkable character, and that’s why fans still love him long after the original series ended.

Many fans are disappointed with Boruto, the sequel to Naruto. While it has its moments, the series hasn’t lived up to expectations and has arguably diminished the established characters, particularly Naruto Uzumaki himself. A lot of viewers agree that Boruto hasn’t treated Naruto fairly, and that a beloved character like him deserves better, even if he’s not the central focus anymore.

Naruto Remains Sealed Away In Boruto

  • Naruto lost Kurama in Boruto
  • He won’t return until the end

The Boruto series began promisingly for Naruto fans, and everyone understood the story would focus on Boruto, his son. Initially, there were no complaints about this shift. However, problems arose when Naruto and his generation of ninja were unexpectedly pushed to the sidelines without a clear reason.

Boruto, I’ll send you to the same place I sent the Seventh! — Kawaki

In Naruto, seasoned and powerful ninja like Jonin and Kage were central figures, not just for their strength, but because they helped build the world the story took place in. Boruto, however, doesn’t focus on these established, important characters at all.

The leaders of the villages, known as the Kage, haven’t been very effective in the Boruto series, and the experienced Jonin ninja are barely seen. More importantly, the series doesn’t do justice to the older generation of ninjas, particularly Naruto Uzumaki. As the Seventh Hokage and widely considered the strongest ninja ever, fans anticipated Naruto would remain a key figure. However, the creator struggled to build a story around the new generation without sidelining Naruto and Sasuke, ultimately damaging their reputations and achievements.

Boruto, all the village is my family. Everyone is equal to me. — Naruto Uzumaki

The relationship between Naruto and the Nine-Tailed Fox, Kurama, was tragically destroyed in the Boruto series, simply to allow Boruto to develop as his own character. To make matters worse, Naruto himself was then sealed away, effectively removing him from the main story, and he’s not expected to return until the very end. It’s disappointing that the Hokage isn’t available to defend his village during a major crisis, all because Boruto feels the need to push the new generation into the spotlight so quickly.

Naruto Fans Want Better Treatment For Naruto Uzumaki

Sasuke Uchiha Is Another Boruto Victim

Just because Naruto and Sasuke are powerful doesn’t mean the new generation of ninjas in Boruto can’t shine. The story could have easily included missions outside of Konoha where both the older and newer ninjas had important roles. It would have been great to see characters like Sakura, Lee, Gaara, and Bee actively involved and leading the charge. Sadly, Boruto hasn’t delivered on that potential. Fans are hoping for more respect and attention to be given to their favorite established characters, but the series currently doesn’t seem capable of providing that.

I’m looking forward to the release of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 28, which is scheduled for November 20, 2025. It’s expected to be available around 10 AM Eastern Time or 3 PM UTC. Like with other chapters, fans will be able to read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
