It’s Time To Admit That Sung Jinwoo Isn’t The Best Solo Leveling Protagonist

This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok

The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling has made the series incredibly popular worldwide, with fans especially captivated by the main character, Sung Jinwoo, and his impressive presence. However, many who only know the anime might not realize that Solo Leveling has a sequel, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, which introduces a new protagonist: Sung Suho, the son of Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In. Surprisingly, some fans actually prefer Suho to his father, praising his more developed character and likeable personality.

Sung Suho Is The Better Protagonist

  • Suho is More Relatable
  • Suho Doesn’t Just Rely On Hype Moments

Sung Jinwoo has quickly become a fan-favorite anime protagonist, largely thanks to the worldwide popularity of the Solo Leveling anime. He’s now well-known among anime enthusiasts, and his success was recently recognized at the 2025 Crunchyroll Awards. Jinwoo even won the award for best main character – a significant accomplishment considering the tough competition.

While Jinwoo is incredibly popular, many fans actually believe his son, Sung Suho, is the stronger and better-developed protagonist in Solo Leveling. Those who have read the original web novels often agree that Suho’s character arc is more compelling.

Sung Suho is a stronger character than Jinwoo, and he addresses many of the criticisms leveled at his father. Suho is much more relatable as a person. Unlike protagonists who depend on exciting scenes and battles to capture attention, Suho feels like a genuine individual. He develops real connections with others, works well with his team, confronts difficulties, and shows genuine personal growth.

Even though Jinwoo remains popular with some, Suho is undeniably the more developed and compelling character. When Solo Leveling Ragnarok inevitably gets an anime, viewers will likely find themselves drawn to him.

Sung Suho is Preferred By Many, But His Adventure Has Ended

  • Ragnarok Isn’t Considered A Direct Continuation of Solo Leveling
  • If a New Sequel Takes Place, Suho Will Likely Be Erased

The web novel Solo Leveling: Ragnarok has finished its story, meaning fans won’t be getting any new original adventures with Sung Suho. While the manhwa (comic) is still ongoing, and an anime is a possibility in the future, this marks the end of new stories directly from the web novel’s author.

Sung Suho wasn’t written by the creator of Solo Leveling, Chugong. He’s actually the creation of Daul, the author of Ragnarok. Although Chugong considers Ragnarok to be part of the official story, he’s established that it takes place in a separate universe. Chugong is thinking about writing a sequel to Solo Leveling, and it’s unlikely Sung Suho will be included because he doesn’t originate from Chugong’s world. Essentially, Sung Suho won’t be a part of the original Solo Leveling universe and may not appear in any future installments.

Chugong created ‘Ragnarok’ as a treat for fans. He was interested to see another author’s take on the ‘Solo Leveling’ world. While it takes place in the same universe as ‘Solo Leveling,’ it doesn’t follow the main storyline directly. Think of it as an alternate ‘what if?’ scenario, like the different universes you see in Marvel stories. Chugong also hasn’t ruled out the possibility of writing a sequel to ‘Ragnarok’ himself.

Currently, there are 25 episodes of Solo Leveling available – the first season has 12 episodes and the second has 13. You can watch both seasons on Crunchyroll. If you’re eager for more content before season 3 arrives, reading the original Manhwa is a good way to continue the story.
