The final storyline of One Piece has begun in the anime with the Egghead arc. After about two years, this arc is quickly coming to a close. Egghead is expected to finish before the end of the year, and the Straw Hat Pirates’ next journey will begin soon, which has One Piece fans very excited.
At a recent One Piece event, it was announced that the next major story arc, Elbaf, will begin in April 2026. While fans are excited about Elbaf – and we’ve already seen some early character designs – it’s expected to be the longest arc in the One Piece anime by far, and will likely take years to complete after a break in animation.
One Piece’s Elbaf Arc is Fast Approaching In The Anime
- Egghead Arc is Nearing Its Conclusion
- Elbaf Arc Will Start in April 2026
A few days ago, fans were told to expect some major updates about the One Piece anime, and yesterday they got them! The official One Piece account shared a lot of big news during the One Piece NEWS press conference. The announcements included both exciting and disappointing information.
Egghead Island is nearing its conclusion and will finish before 2025 is over. While it’s been a thrilling part of the story, fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the next major storyline in One Piece.
One Piece fans will have to wait a bit! The anime is taking a break from January to March 2026. Once the break is over, the exciting new Elbaf arc will begin, showing the Straw Hat Pirates’ adventures in the land of the Giants.
I’m so incredibly excited! The Elbaf arc is easily one of the most loved storylines in the manga, and I can’t believe the anime is already starting it! Plus, they’ve shown off the new character designs for the Straw Hats, and honestly, they look fantastic – I’m really impressed!
The One Piece Anime’s New Schedule Will Stretch The Elbaf Arc Across Years
With Only 26 Episodes A Year, Elbaf Will Take Around 4 Years To Adapt
Many One Piece fans are looking forward to the next story arc, but they’re disappointed about the upcoming three-month pause in new episodes. What’s even more concerning is that this won’t be a one-time break. It’s been announced that starting in 2026, One Piece will only release 26 episodes each year – a significant change that many fans weren’t prepared for.
The One Piece anime is shifting to a new release schedule where each year will be divided into two parts, with 26 episodes split across them and roughly three-month breaks in between. Although the number of episodes per part is being cut in half, the animation quality and pace likely won’t improve. Toei Animation plans to continue adapting one chapter of the manga per episode, which is similar to their current approach with the Egghead arc. As a result, the Elbaf arc is expected to be the slowest arc ever adapted in the anime, potentially taking over three years to complete, depending on how long the manga arc ultimately runs.
As a child, I dreamed of creating a manga with an incredibly exciting climax. I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off! Now, after 25 years, we’re nearing the end of the Wano arc and everything is almost ready. You can jump into the story here if you’d like, because from this point on… it’s going to be the ONE PIECE! I’ll be revealing all the mysteries of this world – it’s going to be a thrilling ride! So buckle up and please stick with me a little longer! — Eiichiro Oda, Author of One Piece, 2022
You can watch all episodes of One Piece on Crunchyroll. A new episode will be released this Sunday as planned.
