This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Over the years, the Boruto series has showcased a lot of impressive powers, from advanced ninja technology to the abilities of the alien Otsutsuki clan, like the Karma. It appears the creators, Kishimoto and Ikemoto, are building a new power structure for the series, and recent events in the Two Blue Vortex arc are making that system much clearer.
Simply put, the Jinchuriki system is no longer used in the Boruto series. It’s been replaced by a new, more powerful concept: Tailed Beasts taking human form. We’ve only seen a couple of these characters so far, but the story suggests more will appear later.
The Jinchuriki Will No Longer Exist In Boruto
Jinchuriki were central figures in the Naruto storyline, introduced early on as powerful beings used as weapons by villages against their enemies. They possessed incredible strength and greatly influenced the world of Naruto. While characters like Naruto Uzumaki, who housed the Nine Tails, were prominent Jinchuriki, the creator, Kishimoto, has since moved away from including them in the story.
This power is incredible – it should be far stronger than anything he possesses. However, it comes with a serious cost: it shortens our lifespans. Because our chakra is linked, any power created by sacrificing our life force also drains his. That’s the essence of Baryon Mode. — Kurama to Naruto Uzumaki
Killer Bee Is The Last Jinchuriki
After the Fourth Great Ninja War, the need for Jinchuriki disappeared. Now, seven of the nine Tailed Beasts are living freely in the ninja world, while only two remain with their hosts. Gyuki, the Eight-Tails, chose to stay with Killer B, and Kurama stayed with Naruto to help him connect with the other Tailed Beasts.
Many fans expected Naruto to remain connected to the Nine-Tails spirit, Kurama, throughout his life. However, during the fight against Isshiki in the Boruto series, Naruto accessed a powerful new form called Baryon Mode. Tragically, using this mode resulted in Kurama’s death, and with Kurama gone, Naruto lost his status as a Jinchuriki.
After Kurama’s death in Boruto, only one person remains with the power of a Jinchuriki. Once Killer Bee passes away, the Jinchuriki system will be over for good, meaning no one will have that power anymore.
New Tailed Beast Reincarnations Will Be Introduced
Though the concept of Jinchuriki – humans hosting Tailed Beasts – is fading in the Boruto series, the creator, Kishimoto, seems to be introducing an even more powerful system. Instead of simply possessing humans, the Tailed Beasts are now reborn as humans. This idea started with the character Jura, who was revealed to be a reincarnation of the Ten-Tails, now possessing its own will. This new form made Jura incredibly powerful, potentially even more dangerous than Isshiki Otsutsuki.
You’re unlike anyone I’ve ever met. You’re not just a regular ninja, and you’re different even from those who hold immense power like the Jinchuriki. Despite being fully human, you remind me of Jura and myself in a way I can’t quite explain. — Kurama speaking to Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto
It’s been confirmed – and I’m still reeling from this – that Himawari isn’t a Jinchuriki like we originally thought! It turns out she’s actually a Tailed Beast incarnate, just like Jura. We don’t know the full story of how that happened, but basically, Himawari and Kurama are fundamentally connected, and she’s more of an extension of his power than a container for it. What this means is that she isn’t a vessel in the traditional sense, and considering all the other Tailed Beasts are out there roaming free, it looks like Killer Bee might be the last Jinchuriki we ever see. It’s a huge shift in how we understand these powerful beings!
Gyuki Might Reincarnate As A Human Tailed Beast In Boruto
If Killer Bee were to die in Boruto, there’s a chance Gyuki, his tailed beast, could come back to life as a human, similar to how Kurama reappeared through Himawari Uzumaki. While there’s no promise Gyuki will return at all, it would be a fitting way for the character to reappear if the story goes that route.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the continuation of the Boruto story, created by Mikio Ikemoto with supervision from Masashi Kishimoto. Set three years after the events of the Omnipotence arc, the series follows Boruto Uzumaki as he works to protect the world and navigates his relationship with his brother, Kawaki. Chapter 29 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will be released on December 18, 2025, at 10 AM EST / 3 PM UTC. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
