This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
The Boruto series has unveiled exciting new abilities like the Karma power, and introduced the powerful Otsutsuki clan. With a new generation of characters, the story needed a fresh path and a revamped power system. The old methods just wouldn’t have been enough for a new manga, so a complete overhaul was necessary.
The Boruto series has successfully brought back powerful abilities like Karma, and now even the Tailed Beasts in human form. The story is heading in a direction that promises the Tailed Beasts will be important again, and they’ll be reintroduced to the plot soon. They’ve been absent from the main storyline for a while, but their return is coming, so fans can look forward to seeing them play a role again.
The Tailed Beasts Are Yet To Be Important In Boruto
- The Tailed Beasts Were Useless In Boruto
- Their Importance Will Increase Very Soon
Even after the original Naruto series finished, the Tailed Beasts remained incredibly significant. They were arguably the most important source of power throughout the entire series. That’s why fans were surprised when Boruto began and didn’t focus on them as much. The Tailed Beasts are central to the Naruto franchise, as the main character, Naruto Uzumaki, gets all of his abilities from them.
This power is incredible – it should be far stronger than anything he possesses. However, it comes with a serious cost: it shortens our lifespans. Because our chakra is linked, any power created by sacrificing our life force also takes years away from his life when we use it. That’s what makes Baryon Mode so powerful, and so dangerous. — Kurama to Naruto Uzumaki
As a long-time fan, I’ve been really fascinated by how Boruto took things in a new direction with the whole Otsutsuki Karma thing. It’s cool that both Boruto and Kawaki have this power! But honestly, what surprised me the most is how the series seemed to completely sideline the Tailed Beasts. We barely saw them! The only time another one besides Kurama really got any focus was during Momoshiki’s attack, and even then, he dismissed Gyuki as not having enough chakra before setting his sights on Kurama. After that, Kurama was gone, and for a big chunk of Boruto, the Tailed Beasts just weren’t a factor at all. It felt like a huge shift from the importance they had in Naruto.
Two Blue Vortex Could Make The Tailed Beasts Important Once Again
Image by Rei Penber/ Game Rant Fans often criticized the Boruto series for not fully utilizing the Tailed Beasts. Fortunately, the author has addressed this in the Two Blue Vortex arc. The Tailed Beasts are now central to the story again, thanks to the introduction of a new villain named Jura. Jura has brought a unique twist to the series by introducing the idea of humans who can become Tailed Beasts.
Originally, the Tailed Beasts were created by Code. He used his unique Claw Marks on the Ten-Tails, which resulted in the creation of the Claw Grimes. These Grimes then grew and evolved into the Shinju by consuming chakra.
Within the Shinju, Jura stands out as a unique being – he is the living embodiment of the Ten Tails. Essentially, human Tailed Beasts are what you get when the Ten Tails gains consciousness, including thoughts, feelings, and a sense of self.
Following the events with Jura, the series surprised us by revealing another human connected to a Tailed Beast – Himawari Uzumaki. When Naruto used Baryon Mode, everyone assumed Kurama would eventually reappear somewhere, but it became clear that wasn’t going to happen. It was a real shock to see that Kurama was truly gone.
Kurama didn’t simply get sealed inside Himawari—they merged completely, becoming a single entity. This means Himawari isn’t a host for Kurama in the traditional sense, and Kurama isn’t a Tailed Beast contained within her. They’ve become one being, making Himawari a unique individual—a human who is also a Tailed Beast.
You have no idea what you’re capable of. You’re not like a typical ninja, and you’re even distinct from those who hold immense power like the Bijuu. You’re just a human, but in some ways, you remind me of Jura and myself. — Kurama speaking to Himawari Uzumaki in Boruto
Human-Tailed Beasts Are Likely The Next Step For The Naruto Franchise
Image by Rei Penber/ Game Rant - Stronger than Jinchuriki
- More Exciting Approach To Tailed Beast Power
Once it became clear in the Boruto series that humans could become Tailed Beasts, the story emphasized how much more powerful they are compared to regular Jinchuriki. Their abilities are vastly different, and they connect with their host in a completely new way. This means Himawari could potentially become even more powerful than Naruto when using Kurama’s power, which is a really exciting idea.
Now that one Tailed Beast has returned, it’s possible others will reappear as well. These powerful creatures are spread across the globe and may have developed close relationships with people over time, even merging with them. This could result in the creation of more individuals who share a connection with a Tailed Beast, which would be crucial if the Otsutsuki clan ever invades again.
Even someone as powerful as Killer Bee, who hosts the Eight-Tailed Beast, could eventually pass that power on to another person. This new host might even become a human version of the Tailed Beast themselves. This idea of human Tailed Beasts means that the individuals who once held these powers could return, but even stronger than before. This is a promising development for the Boruto series, and fans are eager to see how the creators will explore this concept.
Naruto Could Also Gain Tailed Beast Powers In The Future

Now that the Tailed Beasts are back in a different form, Naruto Uzumaki could potentially unlock even more of his abilities. Since he’s already friends with all of them, he can easily connect with them again. With Kurama now inside his daughter Himawari, Naruto might reach out to the remaining Tailed Beasts when he returns and build a new connection with each one.
If he continues down this path, the Tailed Beasts could eventually become part of him, essentially turning into human-like versions of themselves. This might be the only way for Naruto to regain a central role in the story. Alternatively, a larger threat could emerge, making it necessary for the story that Naruto fully integrates with the Tailed Beasts. Either way, this is a significant development for Naruto Uzumaki, offering him a chance to become a key player in the narrative once more.
