This article contains spoilers from the JJK Modulo Series.
I’ve been really impressed with Jujutsu Kaisen – it’s quickly become one of the best action series of recent years. It’s raised the bar for fight scenes and has a really clever, well-developed power system. What stands out to me even more is Ryomen Sukuna; Gege Akutami has created a truly fantastic villain, arguably one of the best I’ve seen in any action series.
Many fans consider Sukuna to be one of the strongest villains of all time, and he’s still feared long after his defeat. Now, the creator of JJK seems to have introduced a new villain, Dabura, the King of the Simurians, who might be just as powerful as Sukuna was.
Dabura Is The Perfect Replacement For Ryomen Sukuna In JJK Modulo
Gege Akutami has a distinctive storytelling style. Unlike many authors, he prefers to introduce his villains right away, rather than building up to their reveal, as demonstrated in Jujutsu Kaisen. This was apparent in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, where Geto was established as the primary antagonist early on, and also in Jujutsu Kaisen itself, with Sukuna and Kenjaku both being introduced to audiences relatively quickly.
What kind of life do you think you have left? I took your body, your sister is gone, and you stood by and did nothing. Not to mention the boy you tried to protect – he’s a mass murderer. There’s no point in even trying to rebuild. Just accept it and let me take control.
It’s not surprising that Gege introduced Dabura early in the story. However, Dabura isn’t a standard villain. Unlike Sukuna, who simply enjoys killing, Dabura leads the Simurians with the goal of creating a peaceful and ideal home for them, where they can live harmoniously with others. His motivations and personality are much more nuanced than Sukuna’s.
Above all else, what makes him an ideal successor to Ryomen Sukuna is his incredible strength. The story explicitly states his power is beyond the limits of the usual Jujutsu measurement system.
Essentially, he’s surpassed even the highest level of power. Plus, it’s been repeatedly shown that he brings disaster wherever he goes, which ultimately makes him unique.
Dabura Was Called A Walking Calamity
Currently, Dabura is incredibly difficult to defeat – almost invulnerable – with only Yuji Itadori appearing capable of doing so. His abilities, briefly displayed in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 13, suggest a power level befitting a character like Sukuna.
He defeated a powerful sorcerer, ripping off their arm, in an instant. Even Usami, a skilled cursed speech user, couldn’t match him in battle. Without Usami’s bravery, he could have easily defeated all thirteen sorcerers present.
He’s unbelievably powerful, and though the details of his cursed technique are still unknown, many fans believe he’s as strong as Sukuna, and could even be more powerful.
Japan understands that Yuji Itadori is the only one capable of fighting him. This further suggests he’s becoming Sukuna’s ideal successor.
Dabura Could Be Stronger Than Ryomen Sukuna And Gojo Satoru
Image from Manga Plus It’s currently unknown if Dabura is more powerful than Sukuna. However, it’s safe to say Dabura is at least as strong as both Sukuna and Gojo. While it’s harder to prove, there’s an argument to be made that Dabura might actually be stronger than Sukuna.
Ryomen Sukuna fights without restriction. His movements aren’t hindered by his extra limbs, and he can cast curses without tiring. Despite his monstrous appearance, he isn’t slowed down at all – his physical form actually gives him a significant edge over other sorcerers, according to the narrator.
The story has recently suggested that Yuji Itadori will be killed by Dabura. If this happens, it would establish Dabura as more powerful than Sukuna. Considering Yuji is currently believed to be stronger than Sukuna at his peak, defeating him would definitively make Dabura the strongest character.
It’s also worth considering that Dabura might not be as skilled with the Reverse Cursed Technique as Gojo or Sukuna. If he were, he likely could have saved Cross without much difficulty.
His decision not to act that way implies that Simurians aren’t very skilled with Reverse Cursed Technique during fights, which is a significant disadvantage in tougher battles. Hopefully, the author, Gege Akutami, will show us Dabura’s full power soon.
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Taking place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown, the story follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Chapter 14 is scheduled for release on December 7, 2025, at midnight JST (11:00 AM ET / 8:00 AM PT). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
