The Sun God is a famous deity in the world of One Piece. First mentioned during the Skypiea arc, this god was someone the Skypieans prayed to for assistance. Initially, fans didn’t think much about this figure, but as is typical in One Piece, it became a major plot point in the Wano Country arc. It was then revealed that the Sun God worshipped by slaves and the oppressed throughout the One Piece world is named Nika.

During Jinbei’s fight with Who’s Who, the story brought up Nika again, and Who’s Who expressed curiosity about this legendary Sun God from the world of One Piece. Later, when Luffy fought Kaido, Luffy’s Devil Fruit Awakening unlocked the power of Nika for the first time.

The Five Elders finally revealed Luffy’s Devil Fruit’s real name: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This confirms Luffy is the true Sun God in the world of One Piece, but he may not be the only one. Eiichiro Oda has built the story to allow for the possibility of multiple Sun Gods existing in different forms, and fans are eager to learn more as the story progresses into the Elbaf Arc.

I’m absolutely fascinated by the Sun God Nika, and honestly, its true beginnings are still a mystery! But the stories suggest this incredible deity first appeared in the land of Elbaf, the home of the Giants. So, if Nika had a homeland, it almost certainly would have been Elbaf. It’s just so cool to think about!

They call him Nika, the Sun God and a legendary warrior. He’s famous for bringing joy to those who are enslaved and is celebrated as the Warrior of Liberation. Surprisingly, the Five Elders claim his powers are the most unusual of all!

Interestingly, the Harley character, first shown in the Elbaf Arc, begins to reveal the history of the One Piece world. Through this, Oda has made it clear that the world has gone through three different ages, each considered a separate ‘World’.

The First World existed 3,000 or so years ago, and back then, mankind was quite advanced, and got its hand on the sun itself, which is a source of power, likely the Mother Flame. Then, corruption rose to a level incredibly high, and slavery became rampant. The wishes of the slaves led to the emergence of the Sun God Nika, who then fought the Earth God and the Serpent of Hellfire, leading to the destruction of the world. This era is likely referring to the time period that existed 3,000 years ago in the world of One Piece.
Then came Joy Boy, who existed 800 years ago in the world of One Piece, and the Harley refers to this era as the Second World of One Piece. After the destruction of the world once, life began anew, and in this era, Mother Flame was found once again. As fans know, it is during this era that Joy Boy was born in the bountiful Ancient Kingdom, against whom 20 Kings united. This is because the Ancient Kingdom, led by Joy Boy, was incredibly advanced when it came to science, and likely discovered the infinite energy source of the Mother Flame once again. This eventually led to a massive war, causing great death and destruction in the world of One Piece, as well as the creation of the Ancient Weapons, which are alive to this day. Joy Boy ended up becoming the second Sun God Nika, given that fans know that he held the same ability as Luffy.
Now, 800 years later, the Sun God Nika has re-emerged in the form of Luffy after he awakened his Devil Fruit in the battle against Kaido in the Wano Country Arc, and he’s destined to clash against Imu and the World Government.

Bonney Is Another Nika In The World of One Piece

Currently in the world of One Piece, Luffy has been revealed as the original Sun God Nika, but he’s not the only one who can wield this incredible power. The Egghead arc showed that Bonney can also access the Sun God’s abilities, though her powers are only temporary.

Bonney possesses the power of the Toshi Toshi no Mi, a Devil Fruit that lets her make any future she imagines a reality, as long as she believes it’s possible. This allows her incredible versatility – she can even transform into something as powerful as the Sun God. During the Elbaf arc, she used this ability, manifesting the powers of the Sun God Nika, and unleashed a devastating series of attacks against Saint Saturn, one of the strongest beings in the world.

Bonney hasn’t completely learned how to control her Nika abilities yet, but she’s likely to master them soon. She might even unlock the full potential of her Devil Fruit, making her even more powerful.

Many fans believe Luffy and Bonney are the only characters in the One Piece world with a connection to the Sun God, but that’s not quite right. Loki actually identifies himself as the Sun God and claims he’s destined to destroy the world.

To figure out why Loki refers to himself as the Sun God, it’s important to know about Harley and its importance to the people of Elbaf. The inhabitants of Elbaf disagree about the true nature and purpose of the Sun God.
