It’s Time To Welcome The New Itachi Uchiha Of The Naruto Franchise

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

I’ve been really impressed with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. Kishimoto and Ikemoto have clearly put a lot of effort into making this series even better than before. They’ve introduced some truly powerful villains and given more attention to characters we already know and love. What’s really cool is how the new generation of ninja are still connected to the legacy of their predecessors, keeping the heart of the series alive while moving forward. It feels like Boruto has really hit its stride.

Sarada Uchiha admires Naruto Uzumaki and wants to become Hokage just like him, while Shikadai often acts like his father. This pattern of following in the footsteps of legends continues in the new generation, with Boruto seemingly destined to carry on Itachi Uchiha’s legacy. Itachi was a hidden protector of Konoha who sacrificed his reputation for the village’s sake, and Hashirama Senju considered him an even greater ninja than himself. Though Itachi is gone, his spirit lives on in others. Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto and the central character of the series, is now taking on the role of Konoha’s new Itachi.

Boruto Uzumaki Is The New Itachi Of Konoha

Boruto Protects The Village From The Shadows

  • Itachi disgraced himself for the village
  • Boruto Uzumaki is following in his footsteps

It might not be immediately obvious, but as the Two Blue Vortex story unfolds, the parallels between Itachi Uchiha and Boruto Uzumaki become strikingly clear – they’re essentially two sides of the same coin.

Self-sacrifice! That’s the true essence of a shinobi! — Itachi Uchiha in Naruto

Itachi Uchiha and Boruto Uzumaki experienced vastly different beginnings. Itachi showed remarkable wisdom from a young age, even possessing the insight of a leader, while Boruto started as a privileged child unfamiliar with the true path of a ninja. Over time, however, Boruto learned the meaning of being a ninja and has successfully embraced the ninja spirit.

Both Itachi and Boruto are defined by their willingness to sacrifice everything for others. Like Itachi, Boruto has been ostracized from the village, yet he remains dedicated to protecting it. He lives as a disliked and dishonored ninja, secretly shielding the shinobi world from major dangers, all without seeking recognition. Similar to Itachi, Boruto doesn’t need praise or to be considered a hero; his only goal is to continue safeguarding Konoha from the shadows.

Boruto Can’t Match Itachi’s Legacy

He Protects Konoha In His Own Way

Although Boruto Uzumaki is often compared to Itachi Uchiha, he hasn’t yet reached the same level of popularity or impact. While Boruto’s series has improved, it doesn’t have the same widespread appeal as Naruto, and Boruto himself doesn’t have as large a fanbase as Itachi did. Boruto is a strong character who is following a similar path, but he’s unlikely to ever achieve the same iconic status as the legendary Uchiha.

The next chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, chapter 28, will be released on November 20, 2025, at 10 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM Coordinated Universal Time. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
