Jackbox Games CEO Explains How The Naughty Pack Pushes Boundaries

As a seasoned Jackbox fan with years of experience under my belt and countless hours spent in virtual trivia battles, I must say I’m thrilled about the upcoming release of the Jackbox Naughty Pack. The promise of adult-themed mini-games has me buzzing like a bee in a honey pot!

It’s no secret that many fans of Jackbox games already play them in an adult way. While all previous Jackbox Party Packs are teen-rated, often mature fans enjoy adding a spicy twist to their mini-games, and that’s precisely the audience that Jackbox Games is leaning toward with the creation of their upcoming Jackbox Naughty Pack. Adding three M-rated mini-games, the Jackbox Naughty Pack re-mixes fan-favorites Drawful and Fakin’ It with the adult-themed Dirty Drawful and Fakin’ It All Night Long. However, it also introduces a brand-new presentation game called Let Me Finish, challenging players to answer life’s super-serious questions like “Where is the mailbox’s butt?” Consequently, fans may be eager to know more about how Let Me Finish works and just how far the Naughty Pack pushes the envelope.

In a recent chat with Game Rant, Mike Bilder, CEO of Jackbox Games, shared insights on how Let Me Finish differs from past Jackbox games, as well as delving into the boldness of the Jackbox Naughty Pack and outlining their methods for crafting Jackbox’s inaugural M-rated game.

Jackbox Naughty Pack Let Me Finish Game Explained

In response to being asked about Let Me Finish, Bilder hinted that it may feel reminiscent for those who have played earlier Jackbox games such as Talking Points and Patently Stupid. He added that it includes some “hot content” as an extra feature. Bilder further explained that Let Me Finish is a competition-style game where multiple players face off against each other, with the basic mechanics being a presentation game.

  • It displays a picture/series of pictures and asks for a prompt.
  • Players use their phones to highlight something in the picture.
  • Each person presents their answer when their picture appears, head-to-head style.
  • The rest of the team votes on what they think is the most fun.

However, Bilder mentioned a key difference to previous popular mini-games like Quiplash:

“While a game like Quiplash has a head-to-head format, Let Me Finish differs in that other players can participate. If they believe they can offer a more humorous response or have a unique perspective, they can raise their hand and join in. They’re then given the chance to perform the same exercise.”

Moreover, Bilder points out that the humor lies not just in the inclusion of mature themes, but also in the diverse perspectives people bring to interpreting things.

How Far Jackbox’s Naughty Pack Pushes The Boundaries

The Jackbox Naughty Pack openly acknowledges its M-rating and targets an adult audience, clearly labeling its content as containing mature themes and explicit material. To emphasize that it’s intended for mature audiences only, the pack’s marketing is geared towards adults. When asked about how daring the Naughty Pack gets, Bilder described it as “spicy,” offering a flavorful yet tactful representation of its content. Additionally, Bilder discussed the team’s careful approach in creating the game, including hiring sensitivity consultants to ensure appropriate content and responsible representation.

We aim to avoid being offensive, crude, or provocative, as such actions are often referred to as targeting those less powerful or vulnerable – a behavior commonly known as ‘undermining from above.’

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that we’ve chosen to cater to a more mature gaming audience with this title. While we don’t condone any form of disrespect, it’s important to acknowledge the adult nature of the content we’re creating. To ensure our game meets the highest standards of sensitivity and respect, we’ve collaborated with expert consultants throughout the development process. This practice is something we apply across all our games.

In essence, Bilder expressed that everyone involved in the project feels good about their contribution and has no regrets regarding its content. It’s important to note that what is considered offensive can vary greatly from person to person. Therefore, players should pay attention to the “Naughty Pack” content warning when selecting games for future gatherings, and determine for themselves where they draw their own personal boundaries.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack is due for release on September 12, 2024.
