  • Players may be able to purchase Jade Weapons with Legacy and Competitive Points in Season 15.
  • The new Competitive Weapon Variant in Season 15 will have a high-end, out-of-this-world look.

I’m thrilled to announce that my favorite Jade weapons from Overwatch 2 won’t be disappearing after all! Originally, it was planned that these 2024 Competitive Play weapon cosmetics would be retired permanently in the next update. But thankfully, Blizzard has listened to our feedback and decided to keep them around for Season 15!

In the previous year, Overwatch 2 introduced Jade Weapons, a brand-new category of Weapon Variant in the sequel. In essence, these cosmetics represent an advancement from the existing Golden Weapons in the original Overwatch. These items could be obtained using 3,000 Competitive Points, which are earned through participating in Competitive Play. However, in a recent update by Blizzard in the Overwatch 2 Director’s Take, it was announced that players will no longer be able to obtain Jade Weapons once Season 15 commences on February 18.

Previously, Overwatch 2 had planned to remove Jade Weapons based on a decision published in their blog. However, after receiving significant public backlash, game director Aaron Keller took to Twitter to announce that the Jade Weapons would not be removed from the game. Initially, Overwatch 2 intended to keep these cosmetics as rewards for the Competitive year; however, fans strongly expressed their disapproval of losing the Jade Weapons, causing Blizzard to reconsider their decision.

Jade Weapons are Staying in Overwatch 2

When Overwatch 2’s Season 15 begins, players might be able to buy Jade Weapons using Legacy and Competitive Points. However, Keller revealed that the decision to include them was made near the end of development for this season, so it’s uncertain if they will be available at the start of Season 15. But he expects these cosmetics will definitely return by the mid-Season 15 update, which is expected around mid-to-late March.

Currently, it’s undecided whether upcoming heroes in Overwatch 2 will receive Jade Weapons. When inquired about creating these weapon variants for new characters, Keller admitted he hadn’t given that possibility much thought before making his decision to retain the Golden Weapons. While Golden Weapons have been created for every hero launched in Overwatch 2 so far, it remains to be seen if Blizzard will follow suit with Jade Weapons or their future replacements.

In Season 15, the enigmatic Competitive Weapon Variant remains a subject of intrigue, yet Keller hinted it will boast a high-quality, luxurious appearance, praising it as “spectacular” and “otherworldly.” Based on his description, these cosmetics appear to be more than just rehashes with metallic finishes. The latest hint suggests they might revolve around a cosmic or celestial motif. Players can expect the secrets behind these new Weapon Variants to be unveiled during the Spotlight event of Overwatch 2 on February 12.
