As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the news about Pacific Drive being adapted into a television series by James Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions has left me utterly thrilled! Having grown up on the horror masterpieces crafted by Mr. Wan himself, from Saw to The Conjuring, this collaboration feels like a match made in gaming heaven.
2021 has proven to be an extraordinary year for Ironwood Studios, with their debut game, Pacific Drive, earning recognition and awards such as a nomination for The Game Awards’ category of Best Debut Indie Game.
In February of this year, “Pacific Drive” debuted for PlayStation 5 and PC systems, and by July, it had surpassed the 600,000 sales mark. This achievement was impressive, but now Ironwood Studios has another reason to rejoice following today’s news announcement.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that, according to Variety magazine, my beloved Carlsbad Studios is set to bring Pacific Drive to life on the small screen! If the name of the production house isn’t familiar, trust me when I say that its visionary leader is definitely one to watch.
The production company was founded by James Wan, the modern horror mastermind who made a killing debut with the Saw franchise in 2004, but also hit it out of the park with The Conjuring.
As someone captivated by spine-tingling terror, I find myself intrigued at the prospect of contributing to a potential TV adaptation of Pacific Drive. With its unique blend of suspenseful survival and soothing automotive ambiance, it promises to be an exhilarating project that aligns perfectly with my interests.
Who Is Working On The Pacific Drive Series?
According to The Polygon, the television series titled “Pacific Drive” has not been acquired by a network so far, but it does mention some of its principal figures. In other words, James Wan, Michael Clear, Jeff Ludwig, and Rob Hackett will serve as executive producers for the Pacific Drive TV show.
As a gaming enthusiast myself, I’ve dabbled with bringing video games to life on the big screen, given my role at Atomic Monster in producing the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.
Currently, Jeff Ludwig from Menagerie Productions is building his reputation by serving as an executive producer for at least one installment of the forthcoming Alan Wake TV series adaptation.
Rob Hackett, currently at the helm of Atomic Monster’s television division, hasn’t ventured into adapting games for TV or film yet. However, he has a impressive portfolio with notable projects like Archive 81 and Swamp Thing under his belt.
Based on the titles associated with the Pacific Drive series, it’s clear that the team at Atomic Monster possesses both the resources and artistic abilities needed to successfully execute this project.
Creating a conceptually sound video game adaptation and actually bringing it to life are two distinct realms, as history has shown us many instances where things have taken a turn for the worse.
I’m hoping Pacific Drive turns out to be more akin to Fallout, and less like Halo, for the benefit of all involved.
