Now that 2025 is over, it’s clear that One Piece was a standout series last year. While it’s starting 2026 strong, the One Piece manga will unfortunately be taking a break after a fantastic chapter released last week. The break begins on January 11, 2026.
The next chapter of One Piece, chapter 1171, has been delayed. It will now be released on January 18th instead of January 11th. While this is disappointing, delays are common around this time of year. Fans can anticipate another break after this one, but the rest of 2026 looks exciting with many big events planned. One Piece fans are eagerly awaiting the manga’s return.
One Piece Enjoyed A Successful Run In 2025
- One Piece Was The Best Selling Manga of 2025
- It Beat The Likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Dandadan
2025 was a fantastic year for One Piece. The manga performed exceptionally well, and it regained its position as the best-selling manga in Japan – a title it hadn’t held since 2019. In recent years, series like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Blue Lock had overtaken it in popularity, but One Piece made a strong comeback.
One Piece has firmly reclaimed its position as the most popular manga, and it doesn’t look like anything will challenge it anytime soon. With the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen in 2024, One Piece’s dominance is even clearer. In 2025, it sold an impressive 4.2 million copies – a number only matched by Jujutsu Kaisen.
One Piece Will Be On Break On January 11
- One Piece Chapter 1171 Is Delayed
Eiichiro Oda has been creating One Piece for 28 years, and it’s a truly amazing series. However, it’s become clear that the author is slowing down. As Oda gets older, he understandably needs more rest and is taking more frequent breaks. What used to be a rare occurrence – a break in the One Piece schedule – now happens several times a month, with Oda taking roughly one or two breaks, or even more, since 2024.
As a huge One Piece fan, I wasn’t shocked to hear about another break coming up! But this time, it’s not Eiichiro Oda taking a breather – it’s Weekly Jump itself! Basically, all the manga published in Jump are taking a break next week, so it affects more than just our beloved Straw Hats.
Following previous delays in December due to the holidays and Eiichiro Oda’s health, another break has been announced. Jump magazine will have a break week on January 11th, which will also be the first break week of 2026. This means that One Piece chapter 1171 is now officially delayed.

Although it’s disappointing that One Piece is taking a break, fans at least know when new chapters will be released, and it won’t be a long wait. The break starting January 11th isn’t due to Eiichiro Oda himself, so the series is scheduled to return the following week, on January 18, 2026. Fans are eagerly anticipating what Oda has planned for the upcoming Elbaf arc, particularly as the current flashback storyline is nearing its conclusion.
Following those chapters, One Piece will probably take another short break. Oda typically works for about three chapters before taking time off, so a break is likely coming soon.
Oda Promises Major Events For One Piece In 2026
- Burnt Scar Will Make an Appearance
- The Straw Hats Reach the Island That Only Roger Previously Reached
2025 was a thrilling year for One Piece fans, especially with the start of the Elbaf arc. Ever since then, Oda has consistently surprised everyone with major story developments.
Eiichiro Oda shared significant backstory details for 2025, including information about the First, Second, and Third Worlds within the Harley. He also revealed the existence of Gods in the One Piece universe, beyond just Nika, and showed off some of the abilities of Saint Imu and the Holy Knights.
Viewers were surprised to finally meet Shanks’s twin brother, Shamrock, and witnessed long-awaited events from God Valley in the latest One Piece episodes – something fans had been anticipating for years.
2025 was a great year for One Piece, but 2026 looks to be even bigger! At Jump Festa 2026, creator Eiichiro Oda shared an exciting message with fans, hinting at a year full of major developments for the story.
Recently, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, hinted that Burn Scar, a character previously alluded to in the story, may soon take action. Burn Scar is known to possess the final Road Poneglyph, which is the key to reaching the Final Island and discovering the One Piece treasure.
Interestingly, Oda revealed that the Straw Hat Pirates will eventually arrive at an island that Roger visited, and no one else. Many fans believe this could be Laugh Tale, but it’s more likely to be Lodester Island. Regardless, it promises to be a thrilling journey for One Piece enthusiasts.
We finally move back to the present after a lengthy and detailed look into the past. Just as you begin to see Elbaf in a new light, the arc concludes with a dramatic and exciting finale. From this point forward, the story takes a much more intense turn.
Could it be… the island reached only by the Pirate King? A mysterious, flame-marked man shows up! Two people who’ve never met before finally cross paths… and then another pair collide! Will next year be filled with incredible meetings and reunions?
One Piece is moving incredibly fast, and while I’m prioritizing my health, I plan to keep up with it at full speed next year! A big event is coming up soon!
Please look forward to it!!!” — Eiichiro Oda
One Piece fans have a lot to be excited about! The Elbaf arc, potentially the most thrilling part of the series yet, could begin as early as January 18, 2026. Hopefully, it will meet the incredibly high standards creator Eiichiro Oda has promised.
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece focuses on the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they sail the seas to lay claim to the grand treasure known as the One Piece.
