January 2025 is Stacked for Nintendo Switch 2 Games, and My Wallet is Not Ready

This holiday season, I’m feeling incredibly excited and nostalgic, like a child again! For the first time in a long time, I’ve asked for something truly fun and extravagant for Christmas – a Nintendo Switch 2. And it looks like I might actually get it! My family and friends have been giving me knowing looks and playfully avoiding the topic when I bring it up, so I think they’re planning to make it happen.

I initially thought I’d get a Nintendo Switch 2 eventually, probably a year or two after it came out, once there were more games available and the initial excitement died down. However, after seeing the lineup of upcoming games, I realize waiting wasn’t a realistic option. The console is now a must-have, not just a future purchase. With so many promising games scheduled for January 2026 and beyond, I’ll be buying it for myself, and those games alone are enough to justify the cost.

New Games Coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2026

January is shaping up to be a huge month for the new Switch 2! It’s not a slow start – it’s an immediate rush of exciting games that will really put the system to the test. In fact, the games coming out in January alone would be enough to make me want to buy the new console, but the good news doesn’t stop there. Here’s a look at some of the titles I’m most excited about as we enter the new year.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon (January 15)

This is huge news for fans of the Trails series. Trails Beyond the Horizon continues to push the boundaries of a franchise already famous for its incredibly detailed world and complex, connected stories. The fact that it’s launching on the new Switch 2 is a big deal – it’s not just about better graphics, but shows that these large-scale JRPGs have finally found a platform that can handle their scope and vision.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition (January 15)

I already have the game, and I plan to upgrade to the new version. I don’t feel the need to justify that decision. New Horizons was incredibly important to many people, including myself, and coming back to it with better performance and improvements feels like revisiting a cherished memory, not just buying the same game again. If the Switch 2 version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons fixes the loading times and makes the game even more enjoyable, that’s all I’ll need.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins (January 17)

The success of Warriors games depends heavily on how well they perform, so the release of Origins on the Switch 2 suggests Nintendo’s new hardware is powerful enough to handle the game’s large battles. If it runs smoothly and doesn’t cut corners, it could be the best way to play Warriors games without using a PC.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (January 22)

It’s still hard to believe! Seeing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2 is more than just a game being available on a new platform – it’s a significant achievement. Just a short time ago, the idea of playing a remake of such a popular RPG on a Nintendo handheld seemed impossible. This is fantastic news for anyone who didn’t get a chance to play it before, or who wants to enjoy it on the go.

January Isn’t the Only Good Time to Own a Switch 2 – The Whole Year is Packed With Great New Games

Okay, so the Switch 2 is looking less like a quick launch and more like Nintendo is planning to support it for years to come! Honestly, seeing the games lined up for 2026, if you were still on the fence about getting one, you won’t be for long. It’s a must-have. Seriously, by 2026, the question won’t be if you should buy a Switch 2, but how you managed to hold out! My bank account is already crying, but to be real, my heart already gave in – I’m definitely getting one!

Pokemon Pokopia (March 5, 2026)

It feels like perfect timing that a relaxing Pokemon game, Pokopia, is coming out just before my birthday. It looks like a calm and unhurried experience – the type of game you enjoy slowly, rather than trying to finish quickly. It’s ideal for playing on the go, and I have a feeling I’ll spend many hours happily lost in its world.

Pokemon Gen 10 is also all but confirmed for 2026.

The Duskbloods (2026)

I honestly never thought I’d be writing about a brand new multiplayer game from FromSoftware coming to a Nintendo console, let alone the Switch 2! As a huge fan of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, I’m incredibly excited about The Duskbloods. It’s totally mysterious right now, but it feels like a really big deal – it shows that other developers are really believing in Nintendo and the new system, which is awesome to see.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (2026)

I never played a Fire Emblem game until my close friend from college encouraged me to try Three Houses. I still fondly remember those late nights spent at Garreg Mach, juggling classes with combat. Fortune’s Weave is quickly giving me the same feeling – it’s the type of game that unexpectedly draws you in and stays with you.

Splatoon Raiders (2026)

I’ve always been aware of Splatoon and how popular it is with Nintendo fans, but I never actually played it – until now. Raiders seems like a great entry point because it feels easier to pick up than the main games, while still capturing the fun, unique spirit of the Splatoon series.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (Fall 2026)

I’m not kidding when I say this announcement almost made me want to buy the Switch 2 right away. A new Tomodachi Life after so long feels incredibly special, a little weird, and perfectly captures what makes Nintendo, well, Nintendo. It’s exactly the kind of game that would really shine with updated technology and the unpredictable fun of online interactions.
