One of the performers from DC is eagerly talking about his upcoming role in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. So certain he was made for this character, he’s bursting with uncontainable enthusiasm.

In their new roles as co-chairmen for DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran opted to dismantle the DC Extended Universe and reintroduce it as the DC Universe with a fresh start. After taking charge, they recast significant characters; for instance, Henry Cavill was replaced by David Corenswet as Superman, while Milly Alock was cast as the new Supergirl following Sasha Calle’s portrayal of the character in DCEU’s The Flash. One actor who is now part of DCU previously played a significant role in the DCEU and has been vocal about landing their dream role.

Jason Momoa and Jack Black recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly about their upcoming movie, Minecraft. In this interview, Momoa was asked about potentially playing Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU, given his fame as Aquaman from the DCEU. Momoa has played Aquaman in two standalone films – Aquaman (2018) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). When asked about taking on the role of Lobo, Momoa expressed confidence, telling EW, “I believe I’m the right fit for the part.” His Minecraft co-star echoed this sentiment, saying, “Destined for it,” to which Momoa wholeheartedly agreed, replying, “Destined for it.” The Justice League actor even mentioned that if there was a role he could be stereotyped for, he would choose Lobo because he shares many traits with the DC Comics character. Momoa stated:

“If I were to be typecast in any role, I’d want it to be Lobo. We have a lot in common.

If you’re considering casting me for a role, how about the character of Lobo? He’s all about motorcycles, cigar smoking, parties, and has long dreadlocks. He’s got a sense of humor and enjoys a good fight.

On the set of Minecraft, Jason Momoa requested his colleagues to address him as Lobo, his character. At one point, he jokingly told Black, “Lobo needs to use the restroom“. In December 2024, the Fast X actor officially announced his casting for Lobo in Supergirl via an Instagram post. He shared a screenshot of a past interview where he expressed his desire to play the interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, stating it was his “favorite” role. Momoa admitted that he had long aspired to play Lobo, saying, “Hello? It’s the perfect role“. In the same interview, Momoa expressed his willingness to audition for the part if necessary. Director James Gunn revealed that shortly after the DCU was announced, Momoa reached out to him about the role, so securing a celebrity to portray the anti-hero had been part of his plan.

Jason Momoa Basically Just *Is* Lobo At This Point

Jason Momoa seems perfectly suited for the role of Lobo. His physical appearance matches the character, and he already has the messy hair, beard, and powerful demeanor that are characteristic of Lobo. Moreover, Momoa’s Instagram post featuring a lit cigar, a trademark of Lobo, further solidifies this connection. Similar to Lobo in the DC Universe, Momoa is also a motorcycle enthusiast, as seen in his HBO Max’s On the Roam docuseries. It’s easy to envision Momoa embodying Lobo, given his resemblance to the DC bad boy. Momoa himself has stated that his portrayal of Lobo is “spot on” and similar to the character, fueling fan excitement for this upcoming role.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
