Jenna Ortega’s Surprising MCU Past: Why She Won’t Return!

Summary

  • Jenna Ortega is uninterested in joining the MCU due to having a brief role in Iron Man 3.
  • Paul Rudd tried to convince Ortega to return to the MCU, but she seems uninterested in Marvel projects.
  • Ortega has seemingly just moved on from the MCU.

Jenna Ortega is one of the most sought-after actors of her generation. However, she has no plans to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) because she has already appeared in one of its popular movies.

Ortega started her acting career when she was only 9 years old. Her acting debut came in the 2012 sitcom Rob. Many might have missed it, but her film debut came shortly after in Iron Man 3. Yes, she appeared in the third installment of Robert Downey Jr.’s solo Iron Man trilogy in 2013, but her appearance was so brief that many have overlooked it or forgotten it. In a recent interview, she was asked about potentially joining the MCU, but the young actress was seemingly not interested because she had already done it and has “moved on.”

Ortega sat down for an Entertainment Tonight interview with Paul Rudd to promote their new movie Death of a Unicorn. The interviewer mentioned they hoped for a world in the MCU with Ortega in it. “I did it once,” Ortega replied. The Wednesday star then explained the scene when she appeared in the movie. It was still crystal clear to her, and she seemed unhappy with how things turned out because her dialogue was cut in the final scene. Ortega said:

At one point, it was my first job, but they removed all my scenes. I appear briefly in Iron Man 3. In the film, I’m depicted as having only one leg, and I play the role of the Vice President’s daughter.

Rudd, who played the titular lead in Ant-Man, has apparently tried to convince Ortega to return to the MCU. “But Marvel is very good at, like kind of laying those bread crumbs. And so, it might very well be that you come back, they’re gonna create something for you. ‘Cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.” However, Ortega appeared to have made up her mind about the MCU, telling Rudd and the interviewer, “They even took my name away. I’m really… but I just count that, and then I move on.”

The report received tons of reactions, with many expressing interest in seeing Ortega in the MCU. Many of them were also surprised that she had already made her MCU debut because her scene in Iron Man 3 was so brief and negligible. Ortega’s character was only featured to show the VP’s allegiance with the antagonists, presumably for her treatment. The villains in the film support Extremis, a revolutionary medication that can help patients grow limbs… hence Ortega’s involvement.

The desire to see Ortega in the MCU is not surprising at all. She’s a versatile actress and could play any role, including a superhero lead. However, based on her response, the Scream star is no longer interested in joining Rudd and the other Marvel stars. This is understandable due to her previous experience with Marvel Studios. Ortega doesn’t need any exposure, especially from the MCU, because she’s pretty much a household name already. The young star has been part of hit movies, TV shows, and franchises like Netflix’s You, Wednesday, Scream, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and more. If anything, Marvel needs her more than she needs them.

The Iron Man films and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are available on Disney Plus.
