This discussion includes spoilers for Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, specifically Episode 7, titled “The Tenth S-Rank Hunter”. You can find it on Crunchyroll.
Summary
- Jinwoo returns to the Demon Castle for the final ingredient, facing formidable foes.
- Jinwoo’s abilities are evolving as he prepares for a huge battle against a Monarch.
- Season 2 is building up to a major showdown, as it has been hinting at the true identity of Jinwoo’s power, which is also related to his father’s return.
In episode 7 of Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, it becomes public that Sung Jinwoo is an S-Rank Hunter, but this isn’t what holds his interest. Now, he can freely market top-tier artifacts and items acquired from quests without facing suspicion for being a low-ranked Hunter with superior equipment. However, what truly matters to him is readying his stock for a climactic raid on the Demon Castle, aiming to secure the last ingredient required for the Elixir of Life.
From my perspective, each of Jinwoo’s excursions to the infernal Seoul has been an exhilarating journey, filled with breathtaking battles such as the one between Jinwoo and Cerberus. However, for those who have only followed Solo Leveling in its anime adaptation, they are about to experience a truly exceptional spectacle, something they haven’t even begun to fathom yet.
Drag Me to Hell
Jinwoo Makes One Last Visit to the Demon Castle to Clear the Last 25 Floors
Previously, Jinwoo has paid two trips to the Demon Castle; his initial visit stands out as particularly eye-opening for his skills and the daunting challenge of the Dungeon at that time. During this first expedition, Jinwoo encountered the legendary three-headed hellhound guardian, Cerberus, a top-tier monster ranked A. This battle with Cerberus pushed Jinwoo to his limits, revealing a more raw and instinctual side in combat, hinting at his potential as the future Shadow Monarch.
If the challenges ahead were as daunting for Jinwoo before he even reached the “castle”, he knew he’d have to approach it methodically, with week-long expeditions specifically designed to eliminate its swarms of demons. The battle between Jinwoo and Cerberus was truly legendary, but it paled in comparison to some later events, such as the spectacular showdown between Jinwoo and Igris, or Jinwoo and Barca, or the thrilling climax between Jinwoo and Kargalgan (now famously known as Tusk).
Upon his second visit to the Demon Stronghold, Jinwoo had significantly enhanced his strength, making it effortless for him to eliminate countless undead without exerting much energy. Even formidable adversaries like Vulcan the Greedy and Metus, the Soul Guide, were no match for him at his current power level. Before defeating Metus, Jinwoo inquired whether the undead feel fear, reminiscent of the Android Saga in Dragon Ball Z where Vegeta questions Android 19 about machines experiencing fear shortly after revealing his Super Saiyan transformation. In the seventh episode of Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, Jinwoo re-enters the Demon Stronghold to conquer Floors 75–100, leading him into conflicts with Demon Knights and, ultimately, Baran, the King of Demons; the Monarch of White Flames.
The Next Greatest Fight in the Series
The Actual Story Teased Throughout Season 2 Finally Begins

Season 2 has subtly hinted at the audience questioning Sung Jinwoo’s true nature, given his peculiar condition. This suspicion is further heightened when powerful magical beings, such as Ice Elf Barca, perceive him as something other than human, or rather, something disguised as a human. An intriguing anomaly arises whenever Jinwoo’s adversaries attempt to acknowledge the obvious elephant in the room, causing them to reset, much like a game character restarting from a save point.
It transpired with Barcelona and Kargalgan, the High Orc shaman, implying there’s something significant about his newly acquired power that Jinwoo shouldn’t know – not at this point in time. Baran, who will be Jinwoo’s next adversary, is a Monarch – one of the ancient beings of darkness who fought throughout the eternal war against the Rulers, powerful entities of light and remnants of the Supreme Being.
Jinwoo’s “Shadow Monarch” character isn’t just a job or profession; it’s the title given to Ashborn, the former Shadow Monarch who once served as the protector of the Absolute Being when the other six rulers rebelled against him. After reemerging as the Shadow Monarch, he returned to the battlefield, only to discover that the Absolute Being had already perished and the remaining monarchs were close to defeat. He chooses to support their cause, but two of the monarchs betray him, with one being Baran, the Wielder of White Flames.
In Season 2, we are introduced to a plot point that ties back into the Solo Leveling story by revealing the return of Jinwoo’s father, Il Hwan, who had been missing for 10 years and was trapped in a Gate. This unfolds as the storyline on Jeju Island develops, which has been eagerly awaited by fans. Before that, an upcoming battle against Baran is expected to be visually stunning if the trajectory from Season 2 continues.
Season 2 of ‘Solo Leveling’ titled ‘Arise from the Shadow’ can be streamed on Crunchyroll. Fresh episodes are released every Saturday.
