Job Listing Leaks New Spyro the Dragon Game

Rumors are circulating that Spyro the Dragon might make a comeback. A former game developer recently shared information online suggesting a new game could be in the works. While Spyro returned in 2018 with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, there haven’t been any new Spyro games from Activision or Toys for Bob since then.

The original Spyro the Dragon game came out on PlayStation in September 1998. It was followed by two sequels, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage in 1999 and Spyro: Year of the Dragon in 2000. Insomniac Games first developed the Spyro games, but other studios like Eurocom and Krome Studios also contributed to the series throughout the 2000s. More recently, Toys for Bob took over in 2018, and they’ve released Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and Crash Team Rumble. Most Spyro games are 3D platformers where players control the purple dragon as he glides, charges through levels, and breathes fire at enemies. Spyro is a beloved PlayStation character, remembered alongside other icons like Crash Bandicoot.

Former Toys for Bob Staffer’s Profile Gives Spyro Fans Hope

Despite unconfirmed reports about a new Spyro game, a recent discovery offers a possible sign of progress. YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh noted that Donald Yatomi, a former senior concept artist at Toys for Bob (2022-2024), listed work on both the Spyro and Call of Duty series on his LinkedIn profile. Before Toys for Bob, Yatomi spent over ten years at Bend Studio, a Sony company, where he was a principal concept artist and art director for the 2019 game Days Gone. His profile highlights his skills in video game environment and character design. Yatomi was laid off from Toys for Bob earlier in 2024. It’s important to remember that he worked at Toys for Bob while it was still part of Activision Blizzard, before it became an independent studio in February 2024.

After Microsoft completed its $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Toys for Bob became an independent studio. However, just a few months later, in May 2024, they agreed to partner with Xbox Game Studios to create a new game. The studio hasn’t yet shared any details about their upcoming project on social media.

When Could the Next Spyro Game Be Shown Off?

There’s a chance we could see the next Spyro game revealed relatively soon. Xbox plans to host a Developer Direct presentation sometime in January 2026, and according to Xbox Game Studios President Matt Booty, they have enough new game announcements for 2026 to fill multiple broadcasts. So far, only Playground Studios, known for Forza Horizon and Fable, has been confirmed to be featured, but Microsoft isn’t sharing any further details just yet.
