Despite ongoing debates among fans, Ryomen Sukuna is undeniably the strongest sorcerer in the original Jujutsu Kaisen story. While discussions about whether he or Gojo is more powerful are common, the story itself clearly establishes Sukuna’s superiority.
Although Sukuna appears nearly unbeatable, several characters in Jujutsu Kaisen could have potentially defeated him during the series. While he’s the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna isn’t truly invincible.
Gojo Satoru Was The Only Character On Sukuna’s Level
Win Condition: Anything
The most likely person who could have beaten Sukuna was Gojo, widely considered the most powerful sorcerer of his time. Throughout the story, it became clear that a showdown between them was inevitable, as they were essentially equals in strength and skill.
There wasn’t a single key to how Gojo could have won against Sukuna, because Sukuna was already fighting at his absolute limit. They were evenly matched, meaning the battle could have gone either way. Ultimately, Sukuna’s risky move, the World Cutting Slash, succeeded because Gojo didn’t anticipate it and couldn’t even detect the cursed energy building up beforehand.
Yuta Okkotsu Could Have Defeated Sukuna
Win Condition: Longer Experience In Gojo’s Body
Yuta possesses a massive amount of Cursed Energy, making him a powerful asset to Jujutsu High in the battle against Sukuna. Despite his strength, Sukuna was simply too powerful, and Yuta couldn’t compete with him directly.
Yuta later re-entered the battle while inside Gojo’s body, but he quickly exhausted himself due to the significant gap in experience between them. Had he had more time to adapt to Gojo’s body and the Six Eyes, he would have been a much more effective fighter and likely wouldn’t have burned out so fast.

Kashimo’s Strength Was Very Formidable
Win Condition: Sure-Hit Lightning On Sukuna’s Weakened Vessel
During the Shinjuku Showdown, Kashimo battled Sukuna, but many fans found his performance underwhelming. While his Mythical Beast Amber form demonstrated considerable power, it only succeeded in slightly weakening Sukuna, ultimately prompting Sukuna to reveal his full power and quickly defeat Kashimo.
Honestly, it’s wild to think Kashimo could have finished Sukuna right when he showed up! Sukuna was clearly weakened and had no idea what Kashimo was capable of. Kashimo could have just dropped his staff and instantly hit him with that incredible sure-hit attack from behind – it would have been over! But knowing Kashimo, and the kind of character he is, a straightforward win like that just isn’t his style, is it?
Yuki Tsukumo Was The Hardest Hitter In The Series
Win Condition: Releasing A Full Power Black Hole
Yuki Tsukumo was one of the strongest characters in the series, recognized as one of only four Special Grade sorcerers. Surprisingly, she was even more formidable in close combat than Sukuna or Gojo. Her unique Cursed Technique let her add immense force to every blow, turning even simple punches and kicks into devastating attacks.
Although Sukuna is generally much more powerful, Yuki possesses a unique and devastating attack called the Black Hole. She can dramatically increase her own mass, or the mass of her shikigami, creating a black hole with immense gravity. This black hole is so incredibly dense that nothing, not even light, can escape it, meaning Sukuna would be instantly destroyed. However, using this attack would also be fatal for Yuki.
Kenjaku was only able to survive because he possessed the Anti-Gravity Cursed Technique, a power Sukuna lacks.
Megumi Had The Greatest Potential Out Of Anyone
Win Condition: Full Control Over Mahoraga
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, only four sorcerers are considered ‘Calamity Grade’ – a level of power no one else has achieved: Sukuna, Gojo, Modulo Yuji, and Dabura. The only entity capable of challenging them is Mahoraga, the most powerful technique within the Ten Shadows, and a cursed technique used by Megumi.
Megumi often gets teased for having incredible potential but not fully developing his abilities. However, if he could perfect the Ten Shadows Technique by controlling Mahoraga, he’d be one of the few sorcerers capable of defeating Sukuna, particularly when combining it with his other shadow abilities.
Hana Kurusu Had One Of The Strongest Techniques in the Series
Win Condition: Complete Jacob’s Ladder
During the Culling Game, Hana came the closest to permanently defeating Sukuna after Gojo and Yuji. Her unique Cursed Technique, Jacob’s Ladder, is incredibly powerful, allowing her to completely erase any Cursed Technique, Cursed Object, or Cursed Spirit – no matter how strong it is.
Hana is one of the most powerful magic users in the series, and she demonstrated her amazing ability during the Culling Game arc when she fought Sukuna. She nearly defeated him, potentially ending the story right then. Unfortunately, Sukuna tricked her, preventing her from fully executing the technique. Had she not been deceived, Sukuna would have been defeated immediately.
Dabura Karaba Is The Sukuna Of The Modulo Era
Win Condition: The Lightspeed Kick
Dabura is one of the most powerful characters in the series, considered a top-tier threat among the Calamity Grade sorcerers. His incredible speed, thanks to a unique ability, allows him to launch extremely powerful and destructive attacks – some of the most devastating seen in the entire story.
A fight between Sukuna and Dabura would be fascinating. While Sukuna is more skilled and experienced in jujutsu and has powerful techniques, Dabura’s incredibly fast kick would likely catch him off guard. If Sukuna couldn’t react in time, Dabura could defeat him almost instantly.
Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
