Jujutsu Kaisen And My Hero Academia Have Ended, But Shonen Jump Already Has Its Next Big Hit

Over time, “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “My Hero Academia” have earned iconic status within the realm of anime and manga. It’s hard to imagine someone with even a passing interest in anime who hasn’t heard of these two massive successes. They’ve been standout favorites in their respective generations, but unfortunately, they’ve reached their conclusions. With these two significant manga series wrapping up, a fresh one is gaining traction in Weekly Shonen Jump, and it appears it might be filling the void left behind.

Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia Both Ended in 2024

These Two Manga Were Among The Biggest In The Magazine

In 2024, Shonen manga enthusiasts experienced a particularly somber season. Two highly-acclaimed shonen manga concluded that year, with one following closely after the other, making the situation even more disheartening. The identities of these two series are none other than My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen.

Both series enjoyed immense popularity among readers, each boasting its own loyal fanbase. “My Hero Academia” spanned a decade, starting in 2014 and concluding in 2024. In contrast, “Jujutsu Kaisen” had a much briefer run; it began publication in 2018, meaning its story unfolded for only six years.

I’ve noticed that both “My Hero Academia” and “Jujutsu Kaisen” still have anime content in store. This year marks the final season for “My Hero Academia,” while “Jujutsu Kaisen” has a bit more time before it concludes. The eagerly awaited Season 3 of “JJK” is slated for next year, and additional seasons are planned following that as well.

Nevertheless, despite the conclusion of both series, they’ve left an empty space in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. It’s intriguing to note that another series is swiftly gaining popularity and taking over as a top contender on Shonen Jump.

Shonen Jump Has a New Big Hit Manga

Ichi The Witch Already Has 700k Copies in Circulation with 4 Volumes

The manga titled “Ichi The Witch” is a fresh addition to Shonen Jump, debuting roughly when the series’ “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “My Hero Academia” concluded. More specifically, its first installment was released on September 9, 2024.

This series arrived perfectly timed and has been maintaining its strength since then. The initial year is often the most challenging for any manga, and if the numbers aren’t impressive, it could be terminated at any moment. So far, Ichi the Witch hasn’t reached the one-year milestone, but the series is already demonstrating significant promise.

So far, the manga has accumulated four books, and it’s doing quite well financially considering it’s a fresh series without an accompanying anime. Currently, there are approximately 700,000 copies of the manga in circulation.

From now on, Ichi the Witch has potential for further growth, and if given a suitable anime adaptation, it could potentially rise to the same level as popular Shonen Jump series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen. This is an opportunity that Shonen Jump seems to be eagerly seeking, considering Sakamoto Days is concluding soon, and they can’t solely depend on One Piece forever.
