This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series.
Jujutsu Kaisen continues to surprise and shock its audience. Creator Gege Akutami is known for writing stories with darker themes, and that trend continues in the new series. Early in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it was revealed that two major characters from the original series, Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin, have died. These two played a vital role in defeating the powerful Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown, making their deaths a significant shock for fans.
It appears the story has now confirmed the deaths of Megumi Fushiguro and Hana Kurusu, a couple that many fans grew to love in the later parts of Jujutsu Kaisen. Chapter 13 of JJK Modulo made their deaths explicit, and it deeply impacted the main character, Yuji Itadori.
Megumi Fushiguro And Hana Kurusu Are Likely Dead
As a huge Jujutsu Kaisen fan, I have to say Gege Akutami didn’t hand us all the relationships on a silver platter at the end! He definitely hinted at pairings and then let our imaginations run wild. Take Yuta and Maki, for example – it was pretty obvious they were a couple by the finale, but we only discovered in the sequel that they’d actually gotten married, had kids, and grandkids! It was a fantastic way to leave things open to interpretation and let fans fill in the details.
From now on, Kurusu, I’ll be helping you every step of the way. We’ve got a mission, so let’s start moving. — Megumi Fushiguro to Hana Kurusu
Gege Akutami also paired up Megumi with Hana, but their story hasn’t been followed up on. The same happened with Yuji and Ozawa in a special Jujutsu Kaisen one-shot – we haven’t learned much about what became of Ozawa either.
The story reveals that nearly seven decades after the Shinjuku Showdown, most of the key characters have passed away. Yuta and Maki are already gone, and while Nobara is still alive, others are dying steadily. It seems very probable that Ozawa has also died by now.
Yuji Attended The Funeral Of Hana Kurusu
It appears Gege is suggesting that both Megumi and Hana have died. In chapter 13 of JJK Modulo, Nobara recalls seeing Yuji at Hana’s funeral. The fact that Nobara uses Hana’s first name indicates they became very close friends over time.
This suggests their relationship with Megumi led to marriage, and she adopted his surname. The author, Gege, seems to be subtly revealing this marital connection.
We’re not heroes seeking justice; we’re Jujutsu Sorcerers. Because no one can really understand what we do, we have to constantly prove that we deserve to exist. We don’t have time to worry about ourselves – our job is to save people. That’s how I remember you acting, Itadori, so start by saving me.
The most significant sign is that Yuji has become isolated from his friends. He’s been steadily losing connections, and it’s become overwhelming for him. Earlier in the story, Yuji admitted to Megumi that he’d have a hard time dealing with being alone if Megumi wasn’t there. Considering that Megumi, along with characters like Yuta and Maki, might die, it’s understandable why Yuji would completely withdraw from everyone.
Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin Died Not Too Long Ago
Gege, the creator of the series, has eliminated numerous characters, including Megumi and Hana. However, the death of Maki Zenin came as a huge surprise to fans. Given her incredible natural abilities and a powerful magical restriction, many believed she would be one of the last characters standing.
Despite everything, she unexpectedly died first. Yuta was devastated by her loss and, overwhelmed by loneliness, he eventually passed away as well.
I last saw him at Hana’s funeral. He told me he was done going to funerals – he just can’t handle it. He might look tough, but he’s actually really sensitive and can’t stand seeing people die. — Nobara Kugisaki on Yuji Itadori, JJK Modulo Chapter 13
Currently, Nobara is the only character from the previous generation that viewers know is still alive. Yuji, confirmed by Nobara, will continue to live because he’s no longer aging. However, he’s deeply saddened by the loss of his friends and hopes to one day fulfill his grandfather’s dying wish: to pass away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Yuji Could Die In JJK Modulo
Image from Manga Plus It’s uncertain if Yuji will get what he wants, but considering what’s happening in JJK Modulo, it seems very probable that Yuji will ultimately be defeated by Dabura, the story’s newest and most powerful character. Dabura is incredibly strong and uniquely capable of ending Yuji’s curse.
After that, Yuji will probably encounter Mahito in the afterlife and finally find peace. While it will be a heartbreaking scene, it will also provide a satisfying and complete conclusion to his journey.
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. It takes place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown, and follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Chapter 14 is scheduled to come out on December 7, 2025, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
