Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami Has Already Confirmed Yuji Itadori’s Return In Modulo

Gege Akutami’s JJK sequel manga, Modulo, is currently four chapters in, and it’s quickly become a fantastic story for fans. The manga takes place 68 years after the events of the Shinjuku Showdown, which resulted in the death of Gojo Satoru by Ryomen Sukuna, and ultimately, Sukuna’s defeat by Yuji Itadori and the new generation of sorcerers.

It’s amazing how much the world of Jujutsu Kaisen has evolved! As a fan, I’ve definitely noticed a big shift. It feels like Japan isn’t the powerhouse it used to be, especially with so many of the strongest sorcerers either gone or getting up there in age. But I think a lot of them are still around, even if they’re not at their peak anymore, they’ve still got incredible power. Yuji Itadori, who we followed as the main character in the original JJK series, is a prime example, and honestly, I’m pretty sure we’ll see him play a big role in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo as the story unfolds. I can’t wait!

Up until now, Gege Akutami has largely kept the most powerful sorcerers in JJK Modulo hidden. What fans do know is that Usami, a Grade 1 Sorcerer from Gojo’s time, is still alive and surprisingly young. Because Usami holds an important position within Japan’s sorcerer ranks, it suggests there’s a good possibility many other sorcerers from the previous generation are also still living.

The first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo revealed that Yuji Itadori was specifically named as one of Japan’s strongest, putting him on par with Gojo. Considering Gojo’s death in Shinjuku, Yuji was probably the most powerful sorcerer in Japan after the time skip. However, the story also made it clear that sorcerers overall have become weaker. This suggests that Yuji is no longer actively working as a sorcerer, meaning he has likely retired. While he’s retired, it’s very unlikely Yuji is dead-if he were, Gege Akutami would have confirmed it by now. Since Gege hasn’t killed off Yuji Itadori, it’s safe to assume he will reappear in the story later, particularly if a war with the King of Simurians actually begins. Someone with Yuji’s abilities would be essential in such a conflict.

He’s Too Important To Not Be Mentioned

Even so, fans will see Yuji Itadori again in JJK Modulo. He’s already briefly appeared in the first chapter, and there’s more to come. It’s probable Yuji Itadori will reappear as an older, but healthy, character, and will likely help Yuka and Tsurugi, particularly because of his close relationship with Yuta Okkotsu. This would allow Gege Akutami to share what happened after the battle with Sukuna and reveal the power levels of each Sorcerer, which fans would enjoy.

Even if Gege decides to have Yuji Itadori die, which isn’t expected, fans will probably still see Yuji in a flashback. Gege will likely explain the details of his death, similar to how he did with Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. Regardless, Yuji Itadori’s return in Modulo is only a question of when, not if.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a hugely popular action series right now. The original manga finished in late 2024 and you can read it online without paying. It’s available on Manga Plus, where new chapters used to be published every week. Currently, there’s a continuation of the story called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, which is released in Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine.
