This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Finale.
In the world of manga, the Jujutsu Kaisen series saw its zenith during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, a period marked by epic battles that left fans on the edge of their seats. The climax of this captivating tale culminated with Yuji Itadori engaging in an unprecedented fight against the notorious Ryomen Sukuna – a battle that stands tall among the most spectacular encounters seen in contemporary shonen manga.
In the end, Yuji came out victorious against Sukuna, saving Megumi Fushiguro in the process. This brought great joy to the readers. However, if mangaka Gege had presented an alternate ending, things could have turned drastically different for both Yuji and Megumi. In this scenario, Nobara and Gojo would have perished, and either Yuji or Megumi would have met a tragic end, resulting in a deeply sorrowful conclusion to the story.
In the final showdown, it was Yuji who emerged victorious against Sukuna, rescuing Megumi Fushiguro. Readers were overjoyed by this outcome. But had mangaka Gege chosen a different ending, Yuji and Megumi’s fate would have been altered significantly. In this alternate narrative, Nobara and Gojo would have met their demise, and one of Yuji or Megumi would have suffered a devastating loss, leading to an extremely sad conclusion.
Gege Akutami Had An Alternate Ending For Jujutsu Kaisen
Only One Main Character Would’ve Survived The Alternate Ending

- Nobara Would’ve Stayed Dead
- Yuji Could’ve Died
A while back, Gege Akutami shared an alternate conclusion for the Jujutsu Kaisen series with fans. As revealed by Gege Akutami, there were actually two possible endings for the series that he had envisioned. In one of these scenarios, one of the four principal characters – Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo – would perish. Since then, we’ve seen this outcome unfold as Yuji managed to save Megumi, while Nobara was miraculously revived in time for the final battle against Ryomen Sukuna. However, it was only Gojo Satoru who sadly lost his life in combat among the three students.
Haven’t we had enough of Gojo Satoru already? — Gojo
In an unexpected twist to Jujutsu Kaisen’s potential ending, as envisioned by Gege, only one out of the four main characters was set to make it alive. This implies that Nobara, who met her demise in Shibuya, would have remained deceased in this hypothetical situation. Similarly, Gojo Satoru’s character would have also perished, a fate already known to fans. However, the most shocking aspect is that one of Yuji and Megumi would have been written off as well.
In this scenario, it’s plausible that Yuji Itadori, being the one attempting to save Megumi, might have ended up losing his life, leaving Megumi Fushiguro as the lone primary character still in play for the remainder of the series.

Gege Akutami Stuck To His Original Ending Idea For Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuji Managed To Save Megumi

It’s fortunate for fans that Gege Akutami chose not to end the story on a tragic note by killing off the main trio of Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara. Instead, they all survived and went on to live fulfilling lives following Sukuna’s downfall. Regrettably, Gojo Satoru could not be revived and remained deceased, which left many readers disappointed. In the climactic battle in Shinjuku, it was ultimately Gojo who took the brunt of the damage, but it should be pointed out that his loss was due to plot necessities. To ensure Sukuna’s victory, Gege had to deliberately weaken Gojo significantly, as a truly evenly matched battle would have resulted differently.
At present, Jujutsu Kaisen stands among the top shonen manga series globally. The story concluded its run towards the end of 2024, but you can read it online free of charge. You can access this manga on Manga Plus, where it was previously released weekly. As for the anime adaptation, there have been two seasons so far, with fans anticipating the arrival of the third season. The first two seasons can currently be streamed on Crunchyroll.
