As a long-time fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I must say that the recent epilogue focusing on Nobara was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Having followed the series since its inception, I was eagerly awaiting any additional insights into the characters’ lives. However, this particular episode left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed.
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue chapter.
Summary
- Gojo gave Nobara her mother’s address
- Nobara honored Gojo’s wishes
- Nobara’s mother revealed to be a terrible parent
Fans were thrilled when the last volume (volume 30) of JJK was published, as it included an additional 16-page epilogue. This extra content was particularly exciting for readers since the original ending felt rather hurried. For fans who adored characters like Nobara, the epilogue held even more significance because she played a significant role in it.
It’s fair to say that many found Nobara’s concluding chapter to be among the best, and they truly appreciated the path JJK chose for it. What made this epilogue stand out was its focus on her family, a side of her character that readers had not previously been introduced to.
Gojo’s Last Letter To Nobara Was The Trigger For The Meeting
- Gojo gave Nobara her mother’s address
- Nobara honored Gojo’s wishes
At the Jump Festa stage for JJK, fans learned that the series would be concluding with an additional 16-page epilogue, appended to the existing ending, when the final volume is published. This news sparked enthusiasm among fans, and it was also shared during the same event that this epilogue would primarily focus on characters such as Ozawa, Panda, Uraume, and notably, Nobara. Since Nobara has been absent from most of the story, having her featured in this epilogue was a thoughtful decision by the author. While it didn’t rectify all the questionable character development for Nobara, it was definitely a positive move forward.
I really do not like you at all, mother. – Nobara
Moving onto the epilogue specifically, this chapter directly connected to the one where Gojo’s letter to Nobara was unveiled. Fans might recall that Gojo penned letters for both Nobara and Megumi. In addition, he had a private conversation with Yuji, sharing his dreams with him. Regarding Nobara’s letter, Gojo provided her with her mother’s address and details, which suggests he wished to reconnect her with her family. This was Gojo taking care of Nobara in his unique manner, as he anticipated that he might perish in this fight, and if that were the case, he wanted Nobara to have a family.
For Nobara, treating the deceased without reverence is something she cannot abide by. This is why she ultimately chose to uphold Gojo’s wishes and search for her mother. In the final chapter of JJK, we saw Nobara having her first encounter with her mother in the story, and it was undeniably a surprising and intense meeting.
Nobara’s Mom And Grandma Is Finally Introduced In JJK
Nobara’s Mother Was Revealed To Be A Horrible Parent
In the final chapter of JJK, Nobara finally encounters her mother. This meeting occurs shortly following the resolution of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc; the exact length of time elapsed isn’t specified, but it’s safe to assume it hasn’t been years since then. As she aims to carry out Gojo’s desires, Nobara has no intention of forging a personal bond with her mother. However, she makes an effort to converse with her casually. It’s apparent that Nobara’s mother is peculiar in nature, causing readers to dislike her primarily due to her personality. Contrary to expectations, Nobara’s mother appears indifferent towards her daughter and even expresses envy over Nobara’s sorcery skills, since she herself failed at it. This jealousy stems from the fact that her mother favored Nobara more than her. To the delight of fans, Nobara directly calls out her mother on her lack of parental abilities.
Was it your assumption that I might feel compassionate towards you when you arrived? Unfortunately, I remain just as unsympathetic as ever.
In the epilogue, Gege emphasized that Nobara’s mother showed a shocking disregard for her daughter’s well-being. Unlike most parents who prioritize their children’s success, Nobara’s mother seemed indifferent. She was even unrepentant towards her daughter, having negatively impacted her childhood to some extent. Remarkably, she refused to apologize for anything, asserting that she remains the same self-centered person she was when Nobara was young. Her life continues to revolve around partying, pursuing wealthy men, and associating with younger individuals. This portrayal of Nobara’s mother as a despicable character is further emphasized by her feelings of envy and jealousy towards her daughter.
Nobara openly conveyed to her mom that she wasn’t looking for comfort or an apology. It was evident that she disliked her mother deeply and had only come because of Gojo’s request. This situation, in a way, highlights similarities between Gojo and Nobara’s mother. Although Nobara’s mother showed no concern, Gojo had always cared for her, even when he was about to engage in his toughest battle yet, believing she was deceased. Instead of a typical mother, Nobara grew up with a caring mentor who constantly looked after her. This is why she follows Gojo’s instructions.
Initially, it seemed like trouble for Nobara in the epilogue, but things took an unexpected turn when Nobara disclosed that her grandmother was secretly there too. Given that Nobara’s mother was petrified of her own mom, the situation turned comical in the end, with Nobara enjoying the amusing spectacle of their reunion.
Was Nobara’s Epilogue Good?
Nobara’s Epilogue Was Lacking Any Real Substance
Fans found Nobara’s epilogue to be a mixed bag. On one hand, they agreed that Nobara had carried out Gojo’s wishes perfectly. However, what left some fans feeling disappointed was the absence of any mention or even hints about Nobara’s mother in the original series. While it was clear that Nobara didn’t care for her at all, a brief reference to her feelings of resentment towards her, or a glimpse into their strained relationship would have given more depth to her character. Instead, this epilogue felt forced and failed to touch fans as deeply as the author had intended.
To put it simply, the act of her doing this for Gojo subtly made their relationship more endearing within the story, offering a fresh layer of complexity to their bond, which fans should appreciate.
In Japan, the final chapter of the manga series “Jujutsu Kaisen” was simultaneously released with its concluding volume on December 25, 2024. It’s expected that an English translation of this final volume will be made available to readers in 2025.
