This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen cherished the journey of their favorite series over numerous years, until late 2024 when the author brought the manga to a close. The story concluded during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, leaving fans with mixed emotions since some beloved characters did not survive. Although the ending was bittersweet, it fell short of expectations for many devoted fans.
Indeed, among them all, Gojo Satoru stands as the greatest and most crucial modern sorcerer. Readers wished for Gojo to experience a rich and satisfying life, but regrettably, Gege opted to end his existence. Following his demise at Sukuna’s hands, fans speculated that Gojo would be brought back in some form or fashion. Sadly, Gege never intended to resurrect him, and the author has since revealed that he planned to take Gojo’s life from the outset.
Gege Never Planned To Revive Gojo Satoru
The Plan Was To Kill Gojo From The Beginning
- Gojo’s Death Was Important For The Story
- Gojo Was Too Powerful
Gege Akutami did not desire for Gojo to live until the very end because his immense strength prevented new generations from growing and posed a threat to the main characters, despite their sadness over it.

Don’t get the wrong idea, you’re the challenger here! — Gojo Satoru
In simpler terms, it’s clear from the start of the story that Gege intended for Gojo Satoru to meet his end. This decision was made at the outset, and therefore, there were no plans to bring him back to life during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc following his defeat.
Gege intentionally kept Gojo present up until a specific moment, so he could encourage the upcoming generation more vigorously. His demise served as a catalyst for Yuji to advance even more , and it set the stage for Sukuna’s ultimate defeat. Reviving Gojo was never an option since doing so would have disregarded all the progress made by Yuji and other key characters like Yuta.
Either 3 out of 4 main characters survive, or only 1 does. — Gege Akutami
In the past, Gege hinted at two possible endings for the series. Either three out of the main four characters would live on, or just one would remain. It has been revealed that he followed through with Option A, where Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara survived. However, it’s important to note that even in Option B, Gojo’s survival was an impossibility.

The Balance Of Power Shifted Greatly In JJK

In my opinion, Gojo’s untimely demise was truly disheartening for us fans, and it left a bitter taste in many mouths. However, his passing had an incredibly deep impact on key characters within the story, particularly Yuji and Yuta. These two individuals, facing unparalleled adversity, displayed immense courage and took command in the fierce battle against Sukuna.
I’d like to express that Gojo’s death marked the emergence of not just one, but two unquestionable powerhouses within the Jujutsu realm. As events unfolded, they eventually played a crucial role in sealing Sukuna’s fate.
Following Sukuna’s downfall, Yuji and Yuta emerged as the chief supporters of the sorcerer community, standing tall as its two mainstays. Although Gojo wouldn’t return, he entrusted his aspirations and visions to Yuta and Yuji, who are now diligently working towards realizing the world that Gojo had imagined.
Currently, Jujutsu Kaisen stands among the top global shonen manga series. Originally, it concluded in late 2024, but fortunately, you can easily find and read it for free online. You’ll discover it on Manga Plus, a platform where this captivating series was previously published weekly.
