This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
I’m so excited about Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo! It’s a continuation of the Jujutsu Kaisen story, picking up almost 70 years after the epic Shinjuku Showdown. It focuses on the grandkids of Yuta and Maki, which is a really cool concept. It’s a bit bittersweet knowing that almost the entire original cast is probably gone by this point, but it opens up a whole new world to explore!
Okay, Jujutsu Kaisen fans, this has been a long time coming, but it looks like Gege Akutami has pretty much confirmed what we all feared in the latest chapter: Megumi Fushiguro is gone. It wasn’t directly said, but it’s incredibly clear through what’s happening with Yuka Okkotsu. Yuka inheriting Megumi’s Ten Shadows technique is a huge deal – it’s powerful enough to stand against even the strongest abilities we’ve seen! And honestly, that usually means the original owner of the technique is no longer with us. It’s heartbreaking, but it seems Megumi is the first major character to die in the series, and before he even got to fully realize his potential. It’s a tough pill to swallow!
Megumi Fushiguro Is Now Likely Dead In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
- Megumi Had The Ten Shadows Technique
- Megumi Never Tamed Mahoraga
Jujutsu Kaisen featured a well-loved group of characters, including Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki, Gojo Satoru, and Megumi Fushiguro. Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi formed the central trio and were all key players in the story.
Now that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has begun, fans were eager to find out what happened to their favorite characters. We’ve already seen Yuji, who appears unchanged and still young, and Nobara, who is now an elderly woman.
After Yuji and Nobara reappeared, many fans hoped to see Megumi return too. However, it looks like the author, Gege, had other ideas for his character.
It now appears Megumi has died, making him the first major character to die in Jujutsu Kaisen. Considering the fate of the Ten Shadows, he probably died before the age of 70, likely in his mid-60s.
Megumi’s Ten Shadow Technique Has Been Inherited By Yuka Okkotsu
Although the author hasn’t directly said Megumi has died, the latest chapter strongly suggests it, particularly through details about his cursed technique, Ten Shadows.
As many fans are aware, certain powerful abilities, known as cursed techniques, are passed down through families, and Ten Shadows is one of these inherited techniques. It’s not unusual for more than one person to be able to use the same technique – for example, Naobito and Naoya both possessed the same cursed technique simultaneously. The author, Gege, has also suggested that Limitless could be used by multiple individuals. Similarly, Noritoshi Kamo shared a cursed technique with Choso, who then passed it on to other Death Paintings.
Considering how unique and highly valued the Ten Shadows technique is within the Zenin Clan, it’s logical that only one person would be able to use it.
Fans understand that the incredibly rare combination of Six Eyes and Limitless has only ever appeared in a single individual. However, the Ten Shadows technique perfectly matches this powerful combination. It wouldn’t make sense for multiple people to wield it, or for multiple people to control Mahoraga simultaneously. Therefore, it’s highly likely that Megumi is either dead or seriously injured.
Considering the events in the story, Megumi Fushiguro must have died in Jujutsu Kaisen before Yuka Okkotsu was born. Yuka is now the one using the Ten Shadows technique, and she recently summoned Mahoraga during the fight with Dabura.
This confirms Megumi’s death occurred more than 16 years ago, because Yuka Okkotsu needed him to have died before she was born in order to inherit his abilities.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Will Feature Many More Deaths
Image from Manga Plus Megumi’s death was a shock to many fans, particularly those who were looking forward to seeing the original group reunited. Sadly, Megumi isn’t the only member of the original cast who has passed away.
The beginning of the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo arc featured a shocking turn of events: Gege Akutami killed off the popular couple, Maki Zenin and Yuta Okkotsu. They had recently married, but Maki’s death led to Yuta dying of a broken heart.
Earthling Sorcerers have a desperate, final option when facing death: a Binding Vow. Yuka has been searching for a cause worthy of such a sacrifice. Knowing she was likely to die regardless, she decided to risk everything for the sake of others. — Tsurugi on Yuka Okkotsu
Gege recently revealed that Hana, Megumi’s intended bride, had passed away. Nobara confirmed the news and mentioned she last saw Yuji at Hana’s funeral.
Megumi isn’t the only character who might die. It’s likely many of the original characters will be killed off before the story ends, and that probably includes Yuji Itadori, as hints about his death are already appearing.
The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It takes place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown and features Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, as the main characters. Chapter 16 is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2025, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
