Jujutsu Kaisen Has Officially Beaten One Of The Big Three Manga

I’ve been watching Jujutsu Kaisen become incredibly popular over the last few years. It started as a well-liked story, but really exploded in popularity when Studio MAPPA turned it into an anime. There are already two seasons and a couple of movies available, and a third season is coming out next week! It feels like this series is only going to get bigger and bigger from here.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently experiencing massive success. It recently surpassed Bleach in sales, reaching over 150 million copies sold compared to Bleach’s 130 million. With its growing popularity, Jujutsu Kaisen is expected to continue increasing its numbers even further.

Jujutsu Kaisen Surpasses Bleach In Manga Sales

  • Jujutsu Kaisen Is At 150 Million Sales
  • Bleach Is At 130 Million Sales

Fans often refer to One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach as the “Big Three” because they were the most popular action-adventure (shonen) series of the 2000s. Each show built a large and devoted following.

Everyone generally considers the three biggest Shonen manga series to be untouchable. That’s why it’s such big news that a newer series has overtaken one of them. Jujutsu Kaisen, which started in 2018, has finally become more popular than Bleach.

Bleach has sold approximately 130 million copies since its release, a number that hasn’t significantly increased even with the recent anime adaptation, Thousand-Year Blood War. In comparison, Jujutsu Kaisen has surpassed 150 million copies sold, according to the latest figures. Jujutsu Kaisen continues to perform exceptionally well in sales even after the manga concluded, and remains a top-selling series.

Even more remarkably, Jujutsu Kaisen reached these incredible sales figures with only 30 volumes, compared to Bleach’s 74. This results in Jujutsu Kaisen selling an average of 5 million copies per volume, while Bleach averaged 1.7 million. Therefore, Jujutsu Kaisen’s sales per volume are more than double those of Bleach, highlighting a significant difference in performance.

Jujutsu Kaisen Beat Bleach, But It’s Unlikely To Beat Naruto And One Piece

  • Naruto Is 100 Million Ahead of JJK
  • One Piece Is Over 400 Million Ahead

While Jujutsu Kaisen did surpass one of the ‘big three’ anime series, it was the least popular of the three. Bleach has consistently been considered the weakest story, with around 130 million copies sold across 74 volumes – significantly fewer than the other two series.

Naruto has sold over 250 million copies across its 72 volumes. However, One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time, with sales nearing 600 million, significantly outpacing all other series.

While Jujutsu Kaisen has the potential to become more popular than Naruto eventually, it has a long way to go – currently, it’s behind by a significant margin of 100 million. New animated projects might help close the gap, but surpassing Naruto will be incredibly difficult.

Despite its popularity, Jujutsu Kaisen is unlikely to ever be more successful than One Piece. One Piece has such a significant lead in sales that Jujutsu Kaisen, now that it’s finished, would need to more than double its numbers to catch up – an impossible feat.

Jujutsu Kaisen Was Heavily Inspired By Bleach

Although Jujutsu Kaisen has surpassed Bleach in popularity, it’s worth noting that Bleach likely played a crucial role in its creation. The author of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, has repeatedly stated that Bleach was a major inspiration, and many fans recognize the influence. Akutami was a devoted Bleach fan during their childhood.

Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) shares noticeable similarities with Bleach, particularly its foundational story elements. Beyond the overall premise, many of the character types in JJK are inspired by those in Bleach. Most notably, JJK’s signature technique, Domain Expansion, directly evolved from Bleach’s Bankai ability. In fact, Bankai was the key inspiration for Domain Expansion, and its creation likely played a significant role in Jujutsu Kaisen’s success.

Jujutsu Kaisen Has Yet To Become The Most Popular New Gen Manga

Demon Slayer Is Still 50 Million Sales Ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen

I’m a huge fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, and it’s seriously become one of the most popular manga of recent years! But when it comes to the absolute top spot, Demon Slayer is still king. It’s incredible – Demon Slayer has sold over 220 million copies in just 23 volumes! That’s almost unbelievable. It works out to an average of 10 million sales per volume, which is the highest average of any manga ever, as far as I know!

Both Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer are expected to see continued sales increases in the coming years, boosted by their new animated releases. Fans shouldn’t overlook that both series will benefit from this.

As a huge Demon Slayer fan, I’m so excited for the next two parts of the Infinity Castle arc! I really think these movies will help Demon Slayer maintain its popularity and stay on top, even with amazing series like Jujutsu Kaisen coming up. It’s going to be fantastic to see where the story goes!

While it’s still possible for Jujutsu Kaisen to become more popular than Demon Slayer, Demon Slayer is currently more successful. It will likely take a few years to see which series ultimately becomes the fan favorite.

Jujutsu Kaisen Is Over, But Its Sequel Called JJK Modulo Is Greatly Successful

Many fans were disappointed when Jujutsu Kaisen ended in 2024, particularly because the ending felt rushed. This was due to the author, Gege Akutami, facing health issues. Fortunately, the series returned in 2025 with a sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

Modulo has been running for a few months, and the first issue is about to be released. People are eager to see how well it performs, particularly when compared to the original Jujutsu Kaisen series.

Early indicators are very promising. The first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was the most-read chapter on Manga Plus this year, and the series was also the platform’s biggest new launch. This suggests that even though the main Jujutsu Kaisen story has finished, the franchise remains incredibly popular.

The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It takes place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown, and follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Chapter 17 is scheduled to come out on January 4, 2026, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
