Jujutsu Kaisen: How Nobara Could Match Yuji And Megumi

As a seasoned anime fan with years of watching and analyzing numerous stories under my belt, I must say that I’ve come to appreciate characters who grow and evolve throughout their journeys. One such character that stands out in my mind is Nobara Kugisaki from “Jujutsu Kaisen.”

Having watched the series unfold over the past few years, it was clear that Nobara’s growth was a bit hindered by the story’s focus on other characters. However, her life experiences, particularly the hardships she endured during the original series, left a lasting impression on me.

Nobara is not only fiercely determined but also incredibly resourceful, relying on her unique Straw Doll Technique to take down powerful enemies. Her ability to hone this technique and develop it further could propel her to great heights in the world of Jujutsu.

But what truly sets Nobara apart is her unwavering spirit and resilience in the face of adversity. Despite facing numerous challenges, she continues to push forward, always striving to become a better sorcerer and protect those around her.

If “Jujutsu Kaisen” ever decides to continue, I have no doubt that Nobara will get the chance to shine and showcase her true potential. And if we’re lucky enough to see more of her in the future, I can only hope she gets a well-deserved moment to kick back and crack a joke or two – after all, laughter is the best medicine, right?

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Arc.

Summary

  • Nobara is the least fleshed out character in JJK, lacking the attention given to Yuji as the protagonist.
  • Nobara still carries a lot of potential and could catch up to Yuji and Megumi with honed techniques.
  • Nobara’s growth and chance to shine in JJK’s future may depend on potential side stories or spin-offs from the manga’s conclusion.

Right from the get-go with “Jujutsu Kaisen”, I, as a fervent fan, sensed Nobara was destined for greatness. You see, she was one of the three central characters in the narrative, and history has shown us that these key figures tend to move the storyline more than any other characters in the shonen genre. However, being a female character had me questioning if her development would be properly handled by the author. Frequently, in shonen series, women are sidelined or not given the same level of focus as their male counterparts. Even leading ladies often don’t receive the attention they deserve. Regrettably, “Jujutsu Kaisen” followed this pattern all too well.

It’s clear that Nobara’s character development in Shonen series hasn’t been as strong as it could have been, and it seems the author struggled to fully explore her role, particularly since she was largely absent from most of the storyline. However, despite these shortcomings, there remains a great deal of potential for Nobara. If Junji Ito Kōkaku no Jikyoku (JJK) were to continue in the future, fans might witness Nobara growing and catching up with the other main characters, assuming the author makes an effort to rectify her character’s progression issues.

Yuji Itadori, Nobara, and Megumi’s Progression In JJK

  • Yuji Itadori Was Given The Most Attention As The Protagonist
  • Nobara Was The Least Fleshed Out Character

Jujutsu Kaisen boasts a captivating narrative with numerous appealing aspects that have won over fans throughout its run. Featuring thrilling fights and emotionally charged moments, JJK showcases many qualities worth admiring. However, the development of the main characters, particularly those of the younger generation like Yuji and Megumi, was not the series’ strongest suit. While Yuji received more attention than his counterparts, this is understandable given his role as the protagonist. Regrettably, even Yuji’s growth, our main character, fell short of its full potential. The author could have done a better job, but unfortunately, much of Yuji’s development occurred in the final chapters of the manga, highlighting how hastily this progression was handled.

Regarding Megumi, it’s common knowledge among fans that although he had immense potential, a trait appreciated by the JJK community, he never fully realized this potential. His domain wasn’t completed and most of his power remained undiscovered. During the Shibuya Incident arc, Megumi’s body was overtaken by Sukuna, and from that point until the conclusion of the story, he was under Sukuna’s control, finally being freed at the end. As a result, Megumi’s development was significantly impeded.

Among the three characters, Nobara’s situation stood out as the most significant at the start. Unlike the others who had scattered appearances throughout the narrative, Nobara was primarily highlighted during the initial stages. Fan anticipation grew when observing the evolution of Nobara’s character in the early sections of the story. However, as the plot unfolded in JJK, it became evident that her role would not carry as much weight.

To begin with, it was widely believed she perished during the Shibuya Incident saga, and afterward, the narrative largely ignored her until the climactic moments. Nobara reappeared merely a handful of chapters prior to the conclusion, struck a blow against Sukuna, and then departed without further ado. Although some speculated that she might reemerge, given the clues pointing towards her eventual resurgence, the suddenness of her return left many fans feeling displeased with the timing.

How Nobara Can Catch Up To The Others

Nobara Kugisaki Is Lagging Far Behind But Has The Potential To Catch Up

As someone who has observed and followed the growth of various characters in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can confidently say that Nobara is undeniably powerful at this point in time. Although she might not be as formidable as Yuji or Yuta, her current abilities are nothing short of impressive.

Gojo’s prediction about the next generation surpassing Special Grade has always intrigued me. I have seen countless individuals who started with humble beginnings and eventually rose to great heights in power. Nobara is one such character whose potential I believe will be fully realized in due time.

In my opinion, her determination and resilience are key factors that set her apart from others. She has faced numerous challenges and hardships but always manages to rise above them. This tenacity combined with her natural talent makes me confident that she will continue to grow and become an even greater force in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Absolutely, they didn’t advance to the level of Special Grade, suggesting their writing skills might need improvement, however, they do possess the capability to improve.

The future developments with Nobara’s character are heavily influenced by the storyline’s direction from now on. Although the manga has concluded, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of JJK getting a supplementary side story. Authors frequently produce side stories after wrapping up main narratives, and JJK follows suit. While Gege may desire to create another tale, the prospect of a one-shot or spin-off JJK mini-series shouldn’t be dismissed. If such an extension focuses on post-graduation sorcerer events, it could provide Nobara with more spotlight, allowing her to receive the recognition she deserves following her challenging experiences in the original series.

To match the pace set by the other two characters, Nobara must refine her Straw Doll Technique. This technique is particularly potent, with its unique ability to strike at the core of opponents – their souls. Among the cast of JJK, Nobara is undoubtedly one of the most proficient soul attackers, surpassed perhaps only by Yuji. Given her remarkable skill in this area, she poses a significant threat to many characters in the story. Fans eagerly anticipate further advancements in her technique, as they believe it has great potential for growth and development.

If Nobara successfully masters essential abilities like Domain Amplification, Reverse Cursed Technique, and various anti-domain techniques, as well as Barrier Techniques, she’s likely to rise to a very impressive level. Furthermore, fans may witness her Domain Expansion, which could elevate her to the ranks of the elite. Notably, Nobara’s precision technique targets an enemy’s soul directly, resembling Yuji’s Soul Dismantle against Sukuna in many ways. This suggests that she has the potential to inflict substantial damage similar to Yuji, implying a high level of power if the author decides to demonstrate her strength in future battles of JJK.

Will Nobara Ever Get Another Chance To Shine?

Nobara Kugisaki’s Growth Depends On JJK’s Future

As a lifelong fan of manga and anime, I can tell you that the fate of beloved characters like Nobara often hinges on the continuation of their respective series. With JJK currently without any confirmation of a renewal, it’s difficult not to feel a twinge of worry for Nobara’s prospects to truly shine. However, as someone who has followed countless stories over the years, I know that authors often return to their worlds in the form of one-shots, spin-offs, or side stories. If that turns out to be the case with JJK, fans like me will undoubtedly look forward to witnessing Nobara’s growth and development in the future.

I had the pleasure of witnessing the release of the epilogue for Jujutsu Kaisen, which coincided with its final volume on December 25th, 2024, in Japan. Eventually, English readers will get to experience this conclusion at some point in 2025.
