Jujutsu Kaisen: How Yuka Okkotsu Gained The Power Of Mahoraga, Explained

This article contains spoilers from JJK Modulo Chapter 15.

The manga Jujutsu Kaisen just took things to a new level, surprising readers with the unveiling of Yuka Okkotsu’s unique ability. The highly anticipated battle between Yuka and Dabura has finally started in the newest chapter.

Fans were eager to discover Yuka’s abilities after she made her Binding Vow, but they were stunned when she actually summoned the Divine General Mahoraga during the fight with Dabura. This surprising turn of events left many wondering how she obtained such power, but the explanation is quite simple: Yuka was born with the Ten Shadows technique.

Yuka Okkotsu Has Access to Mahoraga In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

  • Yuka Has Zenin Blood In Her Veins
  • She Is The Second Known User Of Ten Shadows After Megumi

It wasn’t a huge shock to fans that Yuka Okkotsu gained access to Mahoraga. The potential for her to have this power was always present, as she’s Maki’s granddaughter and therefore carries the Zenin clan’s cursed energy. Even though Maki herself doesn’t use cursed energy, Yuka definitely does, making her a possible candidate for such a powerful ability.

That blade is specifically designed to fight cursed spirits – it’s called the Sword of Extermination. It’s filled with positive energy, much like Reverse Cursed Technique. Honestly, if I were a cursed spirit, that would have been the end for me. But he managed to block my attacks. He can actually see my cursed technique! Impressive. — Ryomen Sukuna Vs Mahoraga, JJK Chapter 118

Furthermore, the story clearly shows that Yuka is using techniques based on animals. Author Gege Akutami hinted at this ability earlier, and it’s now been confirmed: Yuka successfully summoned the Divine General Mahoraga, just as Megumi did during the Shibuya arc in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Yuka Was Born With The Ten Shadows Technique

Simply put, Yuka can use the incredibly rare Ten Shadows technique. This powerful, cursed technique is unique to the Zenin clan, with only a few individuals ever being born with it. Megumi Fushiguro previously possessed this technique, and its immense power is why Sukuna was particularly interested in him.

It was a long time ago, sometime during the Edo or Keicho period—I can’t quite remember. But the heads of the Gojo and Zenin families fought each other in public. Back then, the Gojo family leader, like me, had the Six Eyes and a Limitless Cursed Technique, and the Zenin leader, like you, Megumi, used the Ten Shadows Technique. Does that make sense?

It’s now apparent that Yuka possesses the same ability as Megumi, suggesting Megumi may have died, though it’s not certain. Yuka currently wields the Ten Shadows technique and has become highly proficient in its use.

Mahoraga is the most powerful of the Ten Shadows techniques, and Yuka demonstrated its use during her fight with Dabura, a threat even stronger than a Special Grade cursed spirit.

Yuka Okkotsu Has Not Tamed Mahoraga Yet

Although Yuka Okutsu successfully summoned Mahoraga, it’s important to remember she hasn’t tamed him yet. She’s only begun the summoning ritual and has involved Dabura in the process. This is comparable to what Megumi did in Shibuya, but Yuka is proving to be more resourceful. Instead of sacrificing herself, she cleverly hid while Mahoraga attacked, avoiding fatal blows and directing the Shikigami towards Dabura – all without actually subduing Mahoraga.

This demonstrates that Yuka currently has a better grasp of battle strategy than Megumi. She’s also proving more skilled at utilizing Mahoraga in a fight, and it will be fascinating to see how the battle unfolds. Eventually, Yuka will need to actively participate, particularly since she’s made a Binding Vow. It remains to be seen how well she can coordinate with Mahoraga, or even if she’s capable of fighting alongside it.

Yuka Okkotsu Will Be The Strongest Sorcerer With Mahoraga And Rika

Don’t forget that Yuka Okkotsu can also use Rika’s power. Giving Tsurugi the Rika ring was a necessary step, ensuring Japan’s most powerful sorcerer had everything needed to face the coming alien threat.

It’s very likely Tsurugi already gave Yuka the ring to summon Rika. If that’s true, she might be able to control both Mahoraga and Rika simultaneously.

If Yuka manages to control Mahoraga, along with Rika and a Binding Vow, she would be incredibly powerful – easily surpassing Special Grade and potentially matching the strength of sorcerers like Gojo and Sukuna. Although she’s battling a life-threatening brain tumor, if she recovers, she’s destined to become Japan’s most powerful sorcerer.

The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is currently being published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It takes place 68 years after the Shinjuku Showdown arc and features Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, as the main characters. Chapter 15 is scheduled to be released on December 14, 2025, at midnight in Japan (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Readers can access the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
