This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
While Jujutsu Kaisen features many female characters, each with unique abilities, some have received more focus than others. The author, Gege Akutami, intentionally chose to highlight certain characters to develop them further.
I’m a huge fan of Maki Zenin! She’s such a compelling character, especially considering how much she overcame. Born into the Zenin clan with almost no cursed energy and unable to even see spirits, most would have given up. But Maki? She just trained harder, pushing her physical abilities to the absolute limit. Honestly, while the Shibuya arc showed us she was incredibly strong, it also highlighted how tough it was going up against the big villains. Thankfully, Akutami-sensei really gave her the boost she deserved in the Perfect Preparation arc – it was so satisfying to see her finally get that power-up!
Maki Zenin’s New Power-Up In JJK Season 3
Maki Has A Heavenly Restriction
Before the Culling Game began, Maki went to the Zenin Clan’s treasury hoping to find weapons to help her. She ignored the taunts she received upon arriving and went straight inside, where her father, Ogi, was waiting. It quickly became clear that Ogi wasn’t going to give Maki any weapons; instead, he planned to kill her, holding his daughters responsible for his own shortcomings.
Don’t go thinking you’ve been recognized or something.”
Ogi attacked and injured Maki, repeating his attack on Mai. Pleased with the outcome, Ogi started to leave. Little did he know, Maki would quickly recover and retaliate. Mai’s sacrifice had removed Maki’s cursed energy, fulfilling the final condition for her to unlock her full physical potential. This dramatically boosted her strength and speed, allowing her to easily defeat Ogi.
Maki then began eliminating anyone from the Zenin clan who opposed her, including Hei’s assassins and Naoya Zenin. Those who saw her power firsthand understood she’d become as strong as Toji Fushiguro. However, it remains to be seen if Maki Zenin now surpasses Toji in strength.
Toji Fushiguro Is Stronger Than The Current Version Of Maki
Toji Just Edges Maki In Terms Of Strength
Currently, most people agree that Toji is a bit stronger than Maki. Maki recently gained a new ability, so she hasn’t fully demonstrated her potential yet. It wouldn’t be accurate to judge her strength based on her fights with the Zenin Clan, as Toji has a much more extensive track record of powerful opponents. However, Maki has the potential to become stronger than Toji; she just needs time to develop her skills and show what she can do. Luckily, the Culling Game will provide plenty of opportunities to fight strong opponents and allow her to grow.
Maki Will Play A Key Role In The Culling Game
- Maki is a powerful fighter
- She is physically stronger than most JJk characters
Following the current arc, the anime will move on to the Culling Game, where Kenjaku intends to force human evolution through a competition, as Tengen revealed. Understanding Kenjaku’s plan, Yuji and his friends know time is running out and they need to act quickly to stop him. Yuji can’t do it alone, so he’ll have to depend on his allies, including Maki, to succeed.
Having acquired new weapons and left the Zenin Clan, Maki is clearly joining the Culling Game, likely heading to one of the colonies to participate. Knowing how the game works, she plans to quickly earn 100 points and create a rule that will ensure Tsukimi’s safety. She also intends to help Yuji free Gojo Satoru, who was sealed away by Kenjaku during the Shibuya Incident because Kenjaku considered him a dangerous opponent. Ultimately, Maki is poised to be a major player in the Culling Game, showcasing the full extent of her power.
